After reading so many good reviews and listening to your advice

hopefully D300 will be here sometime next week. In the near future I will be shooting with both systems (D300+E510). Eventually I want to get D2X or D2Xs as my second camera selling all my Olympus glass and bodies. I really can't complain much about Oly gear as it served me well; the reason was just for missing on those (around) 15% of pics mostly at low light and fast action that I had decided to go Nikon way. For some special portraits I still intend to use my Fuji S2 for its superior color sensor. Thanks again for your advice.

Congrats you may not find that Fuji has such superior color once you get the D300.

The SB800 is a great flash, but user control is a bit clunky.

I also ordered a D300 last night and have put my D2H up on ebay here

dj dunzie's thread made me do it after seeing the high ISO results of it compared to the D40 which I know is better than my old D50 and which is definitely better than the D2H.

Also I got a 10% off voucher from ebay yesterday that got me about £80 off it and it comes with a Nikon Crumpler bag and hand strap that I will probably sell. So I think it's going to be a good deal all in. I can't wait, but I will miss the D2H I think.

not sure about the Fuji S2, but I went from the Fuji S3 to the D300 (still got the S3) and the colour straight out of the camera is superior to the D300. i really have to work at the colours from the D300, and its very frustrating. in all other respects the D300 beats the S3, but for colour out of the camera Fuji have got it nailed.

All Fuji cameras (from S2 to S5) have same or very similar sensor built in that is superior to anything else.

I wish to have a camera with Fuji sensor, Nikon AF, Canon high ISO and Olympus glass.

I've seen them go that about that recently, if it doesn't sell I'll relist it no loss, but someone might bite. You can't tell from the photos I have there at the moment but it really is in near mint condition, certainly a lot better than 98% of the D2H's that pop up on ebay for less.

Can't really afford to keep it, that's the only problem :P

I have the same problem. As soon as new camera will arrive I will sell some of my Oly stuff. I will try to hold on E510 as a back up for while as I had invested quite much in Oly lenses

My camera has just arrived together with SB800.
And I just can't believe the quality of its build. It is like a modern E1. It has all the features I wanted. It will be a steep curve to learn but I got David Busch's Nikon D300 book to help me.

I just got mine last night too. I'm surprised how small it is in comparison to my D2H, it's not that much bigger than my old D50 which makes carrying it around on the end of my finger tips not as secure. The build isn't as good as I was expecting after having used the 2H but still plenty good enough for me as I'm a careful amateur. The ISO button is in the wrong place too, wish it was on the black panel like on the D2/3 bodies.

The thing that bowled me over was the picture quality and the screen. Straight out of the camera with a bit of D-Lighting jpegs are awesome. Also at ISO 3200 I am very impressed indeed, night and day in comparison. It's also nice to have a built in flash again. It's significantly better than the flash in the D50 - as is the flash in my missus' D40. Live view is nice, I can see myself using that for low lying flower macros.

The only downsides are that now is that a 2GB isn't as big as it used to be (having said that exposure is spot on so less need to take a few shots to get it right), and that processing the NEF files on my AMD 3200+ with 2GB of memory is a right royal PITA. I haven't worked out how to (or if you can) turn on the focus point markings of points that aren't active in the viewfinder. Currently it shows the one you're using but the others are invisible, I would like it to be more like the D2H in that regard, but the AF seems very good anyway

Can't wait to use it more now!

I think that's because the D2H had all of them etched onto the focusing screen. You don't have that option with the D300.
