And William, there is no reason I would be lying about this. Did you preorder yours the day it announced? Like I mentioned it's back ordered like crazy so no guarantee any of us will be on the first shipment but we can atleast hope.

I think the quibble is with your wording: "Official", which is not the same as "Heard it from a few retailers" I don't think anyone's saying you're lying, but ya gotta admit, it's not official unless it's official.

Define the criteria this has to meet to be considered "official."
I think a variety of independent, unaffiliated dealers all quoting the same date is official enough for most purposes.

Hey William so basically this is what the sales man told me when i was checking up on my order. Of course he could be wrong but based on what i heard from other shops I have high confidence in his words.
I don't remember word for word what they said but here is a summary of what i remember.
October 18th is the official release date of the 5d Mk II. We have 1000 preorders and have stopped taking online reservations. We did that since it was getting out of hand and it's only right and reasonable to take so many orders. Based on pass camera releases (50d, some Nikons etc) we get anywhere from 20-60 units (big variance huh?) in a week. since we are one of high volume retailers if we get X amount the other stores will most likely get X amount also. We will do our best to fill every order asap and update you as soon as we know.

Well Okami, for my sake (!), I hope you're right. I just sold my 5D and am using an XSi till I get the MK II. I got my 5D on August 1, 2008, so it was time for an upgrade.

I checked with Calumet earlier this week and they indicated any 5D's II's ordered this week would most likely be delivered in January. That's quite a wait (especially for a camera that if you read the posts is a dud). I ordered mine a few weeks ago and am ok to wait for a while as the new 50D shows up on Friday. I plan on keeping my 5D MK1 until the new one darkens my doorstep.
i'm switching systems to Canon so I can't wait!!!!!
