Right now I have a momopod with a Bogen tilt head but I am looking at a Bogen 322rc2 or a 322 I think thats the numbers. But I am wondering if anyone is using either head on a monopod and how you like it?
For lighter lenses like those in your profile, I use a Manfrotto 3232 monopod tilt head with a Manfrotto 323 RC2 QR base on it. I recently bought a RRS MH-01 hi-capacity monopod head for a heavier Mamiya 645 300/2.8 APO with 2x TC and 1DII; it's extremely good, but more expensive.
That's the head I am now using but I like looks of the grip and the 222. I saw a person using the 222 this summer on his monopod and I thought it looks like it would work better than my tilt head
I started with the 222 "joystick" head, and I found it was great for shooting with the camera in landscape mode, but it shortened the monopod height too much when you lean it over sideways to shoot in portrait mode. Of course, this wouldn't matter if you use an "L" bracket, or a really tall monopod. I also sometimes used the 222 on a tripod, where I found that it's not possible to make small, smooth adjustments, but this doesn't affect monopod performance.
+1 on the RRS MH-01. My old Bogen 3232? swivel head worked okay but with larger lens it had creep to it. The RRS is solid and has a beautiful huge knob for adjustment, just a super head with a super price though.

Hey Mike, I modded a pistol grip Dynatran to accept a RRS QR clamp. It'll handle a
300 f2.8 no sweat. Very cool and probably have less than $130 in it, including the monopod.
Can send ya pics and instructions if interested...Will
