I ordered the 5DMKII last night and also have an order in for a 50D. No new glass in my immediate future since there's no 24-70 F2.8 IS, so I'll go for the new bodies and sell the 40D and the original 5D. I'm with the OP on keeping the 1DMKII.
I'm going to wait, since I have the 1DsII already. But the idea of using my lenses with the video feature is interesting, as is the sensor. It should produce great image quality for landscape and portraits, and hopefully the video is worthwhile.
Is there a Blu-Ray drive on the market yet for storing/using the HD video from a camera like the 5dII?
The sooner you order the sooner you will get the camera. It's like being wait-listed in a good restaurant .... except that instead of waiting several minutes, you could be waiting for several weeks!

is pre ordering that important, i will be pre ordering tomorrow hopefully i wont be that late
I almost jumped ship to Nikon. Spent a lot of time looking at the cost of the move cause I'm not happy at all with the 5DMKII specs but I am tired of waiting for the FF I want from Canon so I have pre-ordered a 5DMKII and I'll probably do same for a 50D. For those of us pre-ordering now, it will be a race between simply ordering from B&H on the first day and getting the pre-order. If you haven't pre-ordered by now it will probably be faster to simply order from B&H on the first day.
thanks bobbytan, its the first time i am planning to pre order on such item with high demand. waiting for several weeks will be a pain, since i have been waiting for more than a year. i am really worried if i order now maybe i will have to wait for months, or hopefully like someone said before canon never lacks in production.
I'll never buy anything from Canon that's just off the press. First of all I'm not willing to pay the early bird premium. Second, it isn't rare that some technical issue shows after the first release.
That 5D2 is looking very good, but I am a big boy and can wait a little longer (and use my 5D in the main time...). So waiting 6 months isn't a problem, both in terms of price, ease of mind and available equipment. Probably benefit from a Cash Back promo as well (around April/May 2009).
i ordered two days after the announcement at adorama.
when i talked to them, they said that i was in the mid 500's for the queue....
numbers are quite staggering...
Remember that as long as you are on the waiting list, you can cancel your pre-order anytime, as your cc is not being charged. Meaning, if B&H or Adorama, etc. have stock of the camera, you can cancel or pre-order and order it from B&H, Adorama, or whoever .... and they will ship it to you the very next day!

Yikes. Lets hope a lot of those people are on several lists and decide to cancel.
