I make my money shooting weddings, and was basically looking for a D700 with an EF mount, as were a lot of people, the ISO will rock my socks I'm sure, but the 9 point AF system from the 40D is barely accurate in ISO1600 light, I just can't see it coping in ISO6400 light (let alone 25,600!!!!)
THAT is why we're poo pooing it!

+1
If the AF isn't accurate enough you won't be getting the most out of your 21MP's. Your files would be very big, but wouldn't hold any more detail than the current 5D. When driving up the ISO's on top of that, it could become very messy... You just can't see IQ as a stand alone feature... it is just as related to the sensor as to the AF (among other things)
And why would Canon give you the same AF as the $8000 1Ds3 for $2700? I dunno, the old 5D AF worked great for me, can't say I'm disappointed they merely upgraded it to all cross-type sensors. They work great on the 40D and are bound to be even better in this newer rendition. Why fix it if it ain't broke. Looks like a perfect landscape and travel camera.
Maybe because their competitors did?
We all don't have 8000 for a camera. If you need a gun slinger tank 'o camera the 1D series is readily availableExactly the point readily available for almost three times as much.
Seems like a lot of folk here expect to get everything (bar the grip) that a 1-series offers for a third the price. Ain't gonna happen people, get used to it.

Current 5D works great for me and a lot of other photogs I work with every weekend at ISO 1600...
If shooting Servo, I'd agree...But one-shot AF...Can't say that I have been disappointed in the least bit. Every bit as accurate as my MKIII (sometimes better...but lets not go there..)
Just sharing my experiences over the last several years. YMMV of course.
Depends on the street price, And how much the 5D Comes down in price. I proberly will get the 5D Mk II though.
It does look ok though, I think Canon might release a 3D sometime next year though. (1D Mk III And 1Ds Mk III Merge into one camera, And a 3D Replaces the 1D Mk III in the lineup). But thats my prediction and I'm not trying to start new rumours so soon!
Oh, now here's a surprise. Boy, I NEVER saw, or predicted, this half a loaf coming...
Same old stuff, same old business model. Another "churn'em and burn'em" release from Canon. provide only what you have to to stay "reasonably" competitive, slap a sensor in there, jack the price, and wait for another couple of years until you have to do something...
OK, so we know the IQ will be OK, but how's this for an insult... wait for it... 3.9 FPS...What, they couldn't manage to give you a whole 1 frame so they give you .9? Are they F'ing kidding?
98% VF coverage... gotta stop short of making it right... Gotta protect that 1 series camera at $8k...
They did nothing I really wanted them to do.
Same old AF for all practical purposes. Slow FPS, no 100% VF, they put the worthless dust shaker in (my judgment from 1 series ownership experience), and they added video... yeah, that's gonna help...
I'm leaving this on the shelf for quite a while.... Nikon really is looking good

I'm so tired of this hackneyed load of tripe. Does this come right out of a phrase book you guys have when you see people less than satisfied with a "sensor + bare minimum" rehash of an old product...
Most people are willing to pay more for a professional level camera in a small body, including me. And if you think that these disposable cameras are worth $8k at the 1Ds level, I've got a bridge to sell you...
I do really think that some people should consider selling their gear and going with another brand. Life's too short to be "short changed" year after year and then complain about it on FM year after year.
That said...I have done my fair share of complaining about my MKIII experience...but that wasn't based on feature set...but rather faulty implementation or who knows what for several months...
I have no doubt this 5D MKII (barring any fiascoes) will be one of the most popular dSLR bodies Canon has ever released. Especially, amongst current wedding shooters that are looking to replace their current aging 5Ds...
I am also the kinda guy that likes the bigger bodies too. Coming from a video background, Any sized SLR is no problem holding all day. I despise camera straps and pretty much just go with wrist ones anyway...along with grips on the XXD bodies. But I am crazy like that. hehe

I'm a bit disappointed as well. I want to replace my 1Ds because of its issues with dust and weight. + it's LCD is kind of small and slow.
Do you guys think it's worth the $$ spent for me to replace my 1Ds with 5Dmk2?
What I wanted was a 5Dmk1 with dust cleaning system and weather sealing + better AF and more fps. Not necessarily more mega pix and HD Video.
If that's all you want, then this is a camera that will satisfy you. I'd wait about 9 months for the bugs to get worked out, and for it to drop to its rightful place at $1900 US, and then buy...
Thanks, I think I will re-consider the camera after a few months and read some reviews in the meanwhile. If the prices drop below $2000 US then it will be worth it. IMO the current price is way too much.
I think it's amazing and would be brilliant for me. Still, I'd still rather buy the two more bits of glass I could really use (85L/35L) and then move on from 30D/20D.
There should be a 'love it, want it, but happy to stick' option.
As a Nikon shooter I was really hoping for a good 5d Mk II release. It sparks more competition, and I just like seeing new and improved gadgets! But this was definately now what I was expecting. I was expecting Canon to take its hit and turn it into the greatest wedding shooters camera in the history of the WORLD, but they definately fell short by ignoring the biggest drawbacks of the 5d. I guess they didn't want to hurt the 1dmkIII market... (?)
