The softbox is four sided. It opens/closes like an umbrella. That link is the exact one I own. I've ordered twice from that link.
Because it is a softbox that is built like an umbrella, it simply either uses an umbrella bracket for the speedlights (one comes with the softbox if ordered through that link) or in the case of the AB, the shaft just slides into the umbrella holder on the AB unit.
Two White Lightings hitting the white wall, foamcore blocking them off so they don't hit the model. Alien Bee 800 in a beauty dish w/ 40 degree grid from the front.
Geographically? Brooklyn, NY...though I hit the road fairly regularly. I'll be in LA for much of next week, for instance, and DC for a couple of days the week after.
Really is a great thing you're doing with the behind the scenes work Simon, I especially love the jumping shot of Davina, very dynamic. Cheers for all the postings!
Just a few quick shots of my studio, low ceilings I'm afraid but you work with the space you have. I came up with a "unique"use for a infrequently used camera stand for my tethered shooting including lighting control (Profoto Air USB) and quick Lightroom proofing of shots during shoots.
And, yup, I use this softbox with both my AB strobes in studio, and with a myriad of speedlights (580ex, Vivitar 285, Sunpak 120j, Nikon SB-24, etc)
Which stand are you using to hold up the box/light? I'm looking for something similar, to use indoors as well as out, but have no idea where to start looking. Thanks for any future input.
Awesome video, Simon! I'm looking forward to seeing more like it.
I usually shoot people, but it's my day off and I've been meaning to play around with some product shot kind of stuff. Here's what I whipped together, followed by the setup:
Done in my apartment on the kitchen floor (needed all the height I could get) with my leather jacket as the shooting surface. Single Dynalite SH2000 through a 24x36 softbox with a foil-on-cardboard reflector for the handle highlight and a silver book for the highlight on the belt loop (camera right). As you can see, I had to do a little MacGyvering as my store-bought reflectors are much too big for this sort of application.
The bus I'm working on getting my bike license, it's a bit of a pain in Quebec. But I've got time, I'm still young. Plus motorcycle insurance is crazy high here.
