I just invented a new word for someone that doesn't have a dedicated macro lens, but has some that can get them by without add on's. This was taken with the D700 and the (much maligned) Tamron 28-300vr lens. I had to get out today and see what it could do. This along with their 70-200 f2.8 LD has really impressed me with their flexibility. This is about all I need a lens to do as far as not getting too close to excitable critters. It may not be surgical like a dedicated macro, but it is certainly more than serviceable as you can see.
