p.1 #1 · Need advice for shooting bowling.

I hate bowling! That said, I have to take pictures of bowling. Any input, examples or suggestions?

Thanks!

Don't stand in front of the pins

Sorry for the smart a** comment. It is a slow morning and it was the first thing that came into my mind.

I guess I would go to the bowling alley and see what kind of lighting they have and possibly what the lighting will be during the event.
Not knowing what event this is, pro, amature, kids... If it is kids, I have been to a couple where they do the black light/glow in the dark thing and it is way too dark for shots unless you are using a flash.
Not sure if there are any rules for flash photos either. Might be something to check out.
Just some random thoughts.

I would see if I could setup a remote in the lane or gutter next to the shooters about half way down. That would give a different perspective on things.

This could provide some interesting shots, however if it's anything other than professionals bowling you may want to watch your positioning of the equipment.

I've been known to suck so badly at bowling that my ball has gone in the neighboring lane.

First of all the lighting will be horrible. However, see if you can get one of the end lanes, and get permission to setup along the walkway that usually is there.

Here are a couple shots of the only time I covered bowling. Luckily for me, ESPN was covering it, so the place was lit up much better than normal.

To be frank, bowling doesn't sound that fun to shoot :| it would be cool to be able to stand in front of the players... or at least on the lane divider

Since you know where they are going to be, can't you set up some remote cam's down above the pin area or imbedded into the machinery. I have not idea personally, but it would be interesting to try.
