Regarding the hand and composition; I struggled with this. There were about four shots I liked none of them perfect. All needed some compromise. The issues were, his hair is a flippin train wreck right now. Plus, background was not great pulled back. I liked this shot because eyes were sharp and background was pure. Here's another shot I liked and you can see that, yes, no hand but, heterogeneous background and bad hair.
Also, yes, I agree. Picture probably is a tad orange. However, he does have a pretty good glow going from being outside all summer.
Also, regarding the laoptop live view, I wanted to experiment with this option as I never used it before. I was hoping to be able to zoom in10x and manual focus for perfect focus. It worked pretty well but, not very practical in the field obviously.
Regarding the shutter speed, I felt forced to this exposure as I wanted to keep the background pretty blurred. The white you see are actually cabinets in our family room. But, you're right. That would be tough to use all the time.
