Shot this a few years ago in Florence. Every night a bunch of musicians would get together and march to the center of town to protest the war. Let me know what you guys think!

Really good tones, given the subject matter, makes me wish the man on the far right wasn't grinning, but ohh well. A really pleasing BW!

Exposure has been handled excellently - not easy lighting

Thanks Paul - got fortunate on the exposure. Every now and again that old 10d would surprise me. Do you guys prefer this in b&w or color?

Hard to say - but I am a bit of a sucker for B&W - when the image suits it.

What is your conversion process?

Thanks Canerino

The way I converted this photo can't really be considered a process. I just made a new gradient map adjustment layer, changed the gradient to b&w and there you have it. Simple - doesn't apply to every photo but I use it more than I thought I would when I dug up the tutorial.

If anyone would like to process the photo a different way feel free to download the color version and have at it.

I'm usually go ga-ga over B&W - but I like the color for this one - odd... Cool photo, good story line.

I do like that conversion, Paul. Might have changed my mind about the color one...

I like the BW version the most.

A very nice image. Very good capture of a group on the move. Nice setting too. Good exposure.

I wish this forum had more images like this. Nice to see.

Well done.

Assuming you have Photoshop:

Download this action set and load into Photoshop

Run the first action in the set & then hit "Continue"

Control U and reduce the saturation slightly

Flatten layers

Use shadow/highlight - about 10% on the shadow only

Run the second action and flatten.layers

Adjust steps to taste of course including use of the mask on the second action to preserve highlights.

Hope this helps
