I'm getting pretty of topic but have a question about the "wireless master" function of Nikon and the ST-E2 of canon.

Is the signal coded in any way to prevent the flashes to go off when someone else fires a flash?

If so, it could be useful under indoor conditions, if not, I'll rather stick to skyports, pocket wizards, they are reliable and DO NOT require 400$ flashes to work.

Look, if that's what informs your camera choices, why not just buy a porn mag and save yourself a fortune?

I think that many could agree that EOS 1 cameras (starting with EOS 1V) have very nicely designed viewfinder section. They definitely look much better than any XXD or even 5D cameras.
You must have missed that - do you mind telling me what camera (with built-in flash) you use?

Don't want to get into this too much since this is a thread about 5D 2 rumors, but you are just plain wrong here. There is some value in having a popup flash in situations where you cant use a proper flash (like taking your kit on a backpacking trip, etc.), but to actually use a pop-up instead of a speedlight for weddings, parties, etc? What a joke. no offense, but I would never , ever, hire you again if you shot my wedding using a pop-up flash. I've done a lot of this kind of work, and a pop-up flash would be ridiculous. The shots look like garbage, there isn't enough power, and wide angle shots become simply useless. Most of the shots on the previous page look like what I would expect from any point and shoot that allows you to drag the shutter. Anyway, back to the rumor mill....

What it boils down to is that if you need to shoot social stuff professionally, whether it be for press or weddings or what have you, ring flash is the most flattering (almost) practical option, while built-in pop-up flash is the next best, by virtue of the flash bulb being close to the lens. Anything else is a bit student, and interferes with your ability to respond, and capture the ephemeral heart of the event.

Plus built-in flash!

Okay, I was only half-serious. Definitely want lower noise and a high-res screen.

Let us get back to the rumors guys :P I think we are beting each other's dead horse here.

My current wish spec list:

1) 18-21 mpix
2) weather sealed
3) af micro adjust
4) spot metering at each af point
5) iso 100-12800 (50-25600 extended)
6) 100% vf (0.95-1.00 magn. :P )
7) 4-6 fps
8) sensor cleaning

That is about it

Michael, now you are being so Canadian, so analytical

Unfortunately, I could not get an answer to my question so being "analytical" (or Canadian) did not help me

Where are you getting these from? Do they have anything to do with Canon?

From this end the url reads:

But that's your website ...

No offense intended but is there some reason why we should automatically believe a post here over one there? I don't see that there's much difference credibility-wise.

Neither image originated from Canon, they are an alteration of a 5D ad. There actually a few versions of this.

Never said mine was correct, just another drop in the pool... Why I use Nikon has nothing do to with it.. Used Canon for 15 years until D3 was announced..

It does bring up the point, however, that there is more than one camera style shown in the various teaser ads. I hadn't really thought about this fact, but the obvious answer is that Canon is releasing more than one camera.

I doubt camera number 2 is a 3D. I think it would be a low cost full frame: 12/16mp and 3fps. This is a good place to compete with Nikon, who must buy their sensors.

My naming guess is 5D MKII and 7D.

No, I was just teasing about the Nikon, but if the images can't be traced to Canon do they qualify as a rumor or a hoax?

Please photoshop two 3D. One with flash, one without. 3D and 3Df. Then we can stop the never ending in-camera flash discussion.

Oh, and for me please put a GPS label on the 3D. That will make me happy.

Can't say I've seen flash sync speed mentioned yet. I don't want to see anything slower than 1/250.

I'm assuming the file size, speed and general whiz bang with be there. The 50d set a current minimum. The single unknown make or break thing that can't be read from a spec sheet is focus accuracy. It took three 40d to get one that works 'fine'. I never had to return any prior Canon product before to this. It still isn't great shakes shooting something wide open at a whopping 200mm either. I wouldn't race out to get a 50 I want/need/expect something to equal my trusty but aging 1dm2 before the money walks.

So in a word for me it's accuracy.

+1. A bare viewfinder is a beauty, the new one appears to look even better, with the mode dial moved to the side.

Ouch. Foul! Since when are porn mags beautiful? I don't like any of them. I chose the 5D for the image quality, but I'm glad it's also one of the most beautiful cameras.

With your technical understanding, "why not just" build your own flash, and put it on the hot shoe?

What's wrong with suggesting a hot shoe solution that has all the properties you are looking for?

...which can draw power from the camera battery through the hot shoe? I didn't know Canon's hot shoe had that capability. Seriously, batteries are an eternal nuisance. Only having to bring one type is a great advantage that the D700, D300, 50D, 40D, 30D, 20D, and rebels all enjoy. But because I like full frame, Canon is determined to inconvenience me by not providing a simple pop-up flash available in all those models, and charge me $400 for the privilege of a flash which isn't even as good for my purposes.

I'm only joking about the porn. We all like gear that looks nice. But for me, that comes long after capabilities. Let's face it, an IXUS is prettier than a 5D. But it won't do the job.

Sorry fellas - missed that question. I used to use Nikons, but switched to Canon for the 5D because it seemed to me that 5D image quality wasn't worth waiting for. I don't regret switching, but I do find not having a built-in flash a constant annoyance. I have just sold my last 5D, and my main camera is currently a 1Ds3. Would I like my 1Ds3 to have a built-in flash? Hell yes, and at that price, why not. I really don't much care how pretty it is. Pretty doesn't get the job done.

I currently use Olympus T20 flash units because their exposure is as reliable as Canon's, if not more so, and they are low-profile, so the bulb isn't as far from the lens axis as a Canon flash.

Mmmm. D700. Full frame. Weather-sealed. Pop-up flash. Will I get one or struggle on with non-dedicated flash? Let's wait and see what the 7D is like.

I don't like the IXUS look. It makes me think of a box of cigarettes. The G9 look isn't much better, however I do own one.

So you've ordered a D700, right?

Seriously, I'd prefer Canon adds that capability to its hot shoe. (I've already mentioned that as a question.) Would also help reduce the cost, weight and size of wireless flash triggers, for example. That seems something I'd be in favor of also by myself.

Edit: I see you're at least thinking about ordering one...

I have been sitting at work checking out d700 images at iso 6400... if the 5d mk II is at that level (or better), I'm getting one. Weather sealing or not, popupflash or not.. seriously, the versatility you have with a f/1.2 lens and 6400 iso is just insane

Especially if you add IS to the lens, provided it works at that light...
