p.1 #1 · C&C for my website

Hi all,

I have long been a reader of this site, admiring the photos....always foudn the work posted here to be far more "professional" than other forums I visit.

After much deliberation (and practice) I have finally worked up the courage to ask for some feedback on my efforts....before I start to contribute regularly.

So, here goes.....would love to hear what you think of my website. Design, content etc and feedback would be graefully recieved. (P.S. I know there are some typos, my proof reader went on strike and I am still waiting to get home from long business trip to correct those!!)website is:

www.pumaknight.co.uk

Thanks,
Michael H

Loads pretty quick on my adsl connection so that is good.

The blue on white and black seems a bit uninspired if your goal is to impress - seems cold and lifeless to me. Brown or red might be better.

Flash to menu as you go over gallery works for me.

I don't like that the arrows just move you further in menu - i thought they should move to net picture. I would suggest a slide show button.

There should be an obvious button to get you back to the highest level menu when looking at pictures - I did not see it and I had to click aournd.

There are way too many images to critique - I suggest you pick 3 of the best from each gallery and post them as a searate post here. My overally reaction is that the pictures are quite nice.

Finally althought the web site is quite good, despite my comments above, it is not clear what the purpose is - to show off your skills or to seek business. If it is the former, it is good. If the latter it is a bit complicated and it is not clear that your are trying to sell

Welcome to the forum - I look forward to your posts.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

It is entirely for personal reasons, no commercial aspect at all. The idea is to show my development as a photographer over the coming years. So it is less of a portfolio where only a selection of the best would be right and more of a diary of the day's events.

When I post here, I will certainly take your suggestion and pick the best 3!!
Thanks again for the feedback.

I like it, seems you have photographed at quite a few of the events I have!

The site works well, it is easy to navigate around. Like Scott I find the colours a bit weird, makes it look cold. I experimented quite a bit with the colours of mine and found black worked best to display the images.

You are more brave than I am since I didn't bother with flash!! Well done Michael.

Thanks - I am quite happy with teh colours for now, but do take on board what you are saying about them feeling a bit cold. Did expereiment with black but preferred the lighter feel of white - I suppose it is down to personal choice.

Flash is not as hard as you first think - takes a bit of getting used to and a lot of reading (!!) but once you have got the hang of it, it will transform your site.

Thanks agian for taking the time to look and comment.

I'm new to photography but I know web sites and I think it's well done. I actually really like your color combination, but I see the point the others have made above, because it doesn't fade into the background it competes for attention with your wonderful shots. Maybe if the blue was just a bit "icier", lighter with silver undertones it would melt into the grey when viewing...

Loved your shots of NYC - I grew up less than an hour from there so maybe I'm a little bias.

Thank you. i loved New York - to be honest I could have spent a whole month there just doing street photography. What a vibrant city and so much character! We were very lucky with the weather bearing in mind we went a Xmas. ONly one day of rain, and that was only light and created some stunning sky scapes.

Thanks for the advice on the colours - I may have to amend the colours based on the feedback - I wil lhave a play and see what makes the grey less oppressive and the blue more appealing.

I looked at your site before reading the others' comments above. The ice-blue banner struck me as a bit forbidding, cold and washed out.

I like navigating and the rollover on the categories.

I looked through World, Architecture and Travel, Italy. For me your composition is superb. Liked your use of leading lines and unusual shapes. I find your work more compelling than most of the photo Web sites I have visited recently.
