Honestly, a camera packed with those features, at an XXD price point, would be fine with me. I just don't see it happening. If a 50D comes out, priced ala 40D, I'll buy one in a heart beat, and eat crow all of the way to the bank.
That said, don't hold your breath, and expect that to happen. I'm willing to bet, that it doesn't happen. How long has the 40D been out? You think the replacement is already coming out?
Who knows though, maybe the 50D is the 5D replacement, just not full frame. Wouldn't that be a punch in the balls. Do you know what I mean/ The 5D was/is awesome because it's full frame, at this price point. So instead of giving that to the consumer, drop it to a crop, call it a 50D, and viola. There's your new 5D.
I think it may have some sort of automatic CA correction, I've been trying to translate this:
镜头周边光量校正
reference.com: Lens peripheral light quantity adjustment
google: The amount of light surrounding the lens correction

I really hope whatever canon releases its a new focus system with more then 9 points..I think its time they up the game on that in the cameras below the 1D..Like it or not that is one of the big features of the D300/D700 so they gotta compete with that
the in cam IS sounds hard to believe
but if these really are the specs I just HOPE the AF is at least 1dmkiin quality (even without the helpful expnasion ring and adjustments, but hopefully the center point at least would track as well if you are able to keep it on target)

What I find appealing about specs is that since at least the 30D, the xxD resolution specs have been lock-step with the 1D non "s" bodies... so hopefully this means a 1DIV at around 15MP (and full frame would be even better).
You are on to something here.
Canon are most probably doing the exact same thing as Nikon - standardizing on a single sensor resolution (number of pixels) for 50D, 5DII, and the 1D4.
This way they can share/reuse most of the electronics.
The only thing that the 50D spec does not mention is which processor is used in the 50D. Is the Digic III capable of 6.3 x 15mp ?
Overall, the 50D looks like a somewhat pointless upgrade.
Canon are most probably testing the new sensor tech that they have (which allowed them to increase the ISO to 12800 in a 15mp crop sensor).

I was curious since they always seem to leak camera info, so I went digging on their site, and found the 50D specs (no pictures were posted yet.
1.6x crop
15.1MP
Digic 4
Dust Reduction
Auto Brightness Processing
95% viewfinder .97 magnification
9 point af (All Cross Type)
AF Fine Tuning
Face Recognition AF
ISO 100-3200 (Expansion to 6400, 12800)
14-bit image processing
Auto CA correction
In-Camera Anti-Shake
6.3 fps (high speed) 3fps (low speed)
Buffer: 16 RAW - 60 JPG - 10 RAW+JPG
100,000 shutter life
HDMI Output
VGA LCD (920,000 pixel)
If the specs are correct it's at least nice to know that the 5D replacement will definitely have a high-def screen and Digic 4 ... maybe even dual Digic 4!

f this is 15MP doesn't that lend credence to the 18-21MP for the 5dmkii?
Probably no.
The 5DII and the 1D4 are moslt likely to share the same sensor and electronics (same like D3 and D700).
With a single Digic 4, the 5DII will do 6.3fps. The 1D4 will do 10+ fps with dual Digic 4s.
