people get pissed when their cheap-a$$ Sigmas stop working, how would you feel when your $3000+ Leica needed to be rechipped etc.? none to happy I suspect.

What are you really trying to say? That if you want to save money (say, by getting a MF 135mm that is just as sharp as the canon 135mm for 1/10th of the price) you have to be an IT guy? If you want special bokeh or special color rendition, you have to be an IT guy...?
No, there is nothing wrong with using alternative equipment. But what I believe he is saying is that some photographers become so obsessed with aspects of photographic technology (new or old, it doesn't matter) to enable the creation of perfectly beautiful yet boring images, they lose sight of the fundamental necessity for compelling content. Maybe it's just better to be technically ignorant and not get caught up in the endless quest for the perfect piece of equipment.
Canon and Leica are no good partners for each other for a lot of different reasons. The fact that Leica is connected to the Matsushita Corporation (Panasonic) made my bullshit detector trigger. Anyone can make a story like this with some (fake) e-mail. Don't believe it. Let's just have EOSfun.

Well for me, as a poor student, the technical gurues here that tipped me about the rokkor 58 1.2, CZ jena 135 etc have made it possible to get great equipment that i can use to make great images. I see the problem with being too much into gear, but I think that L-heads are just as prone to that as alternatives
(on a second note, the "alternative images thread" is far better in quality than the "canon images" or "nikon images" thread imo... :P )

Canon is a HUGE imaging company Leica is a tiny optical company.
Right on, BUT, Canon lenses in the sub 50mm (50 included) ARE poorer quality optically compared to the alternatives out there...so... it still makes sense to have Leica (or other alternatives) work with Canon for lenses...
Something tells me that Canon gods probably don't share my opinion though...
