p.1 #1 · Wierd 5D color cast stripe

I've only had my 5D about 24 hours and I already have a question...this afternoon I started getting this wierd color cast stripe on my images. It wouldn't be in the same place on all the images...it could be higher or lower but always going horizontally across. However, it was only happening in AV, I could not duplicate this in any other mode. I then noticed that the low battery indicator was flashing so I turned everything off and waited to use a fresh battery. Well, with a fresh battery it's working fine again so I assume it was just a low battery sensor error but I've never seen this before with either my 10D or XT...so I was just curious if anyone has seen something similar with thier 5D?

...but It only showed up in AV, it wouldn't show up in TV, Manual, or Program.

Check your exposure data ... you have to be shooting with a shutter speed that is in the right range to get this effect. It should be easy to reproduce in TV and manual once you see what is going on.

I only have two images saved from all the samples...one is @ 1/2500 & the other is @ 1/6400. I can't seem to duplicate the same results at home. I'm even using the same low-battery but I can't duplicate it.

As you state in your reply, could it simply be a wierd effect of the flourescent lights in my office and certain shutter speeds? Could it be some wierd electro-magnetic interference from the lights?

As others have stated, this is a natural occurrence wherein you've captured the pulse of the fluorescent lights in your office. It's not a "wierd electro-magnetic interference", it's a simple timing fluke. Look at the EXIF data and note the shutter speed. If you set your camera to TV and choose the same shutter it will happen again, same as with manual.
It doesn't happen at home because you don't have fluorescent lights at home.
If it continues to occur, send me the camera and I'll thoroughly evaluate it.

Well, if you can't duplicate it now I guess that's good. Congrats on the new gear, that 5D body is outstanding.

Take some shots in daylight at all speeds, if it happens then you have a problem, but this looks to me like an artificial lighting issue

I had this happen to me at a wedding reception and could never figure out why...I'm glad I read this post!

Of course, I haven't had it happen since...but glad to know why

This is also noticed in ice rinks, where the ice will go from white to almost pink.
