I think they are screwing up everything so bad the FrankenDoddLosi are going to be history next November. Just hope the country is still functional by then.
I for one appreciate that you spoke up about them as early as you did. I currently have 9 ABs and was going to purchase 3 more until I heard about the Einsteins. It worked out for me... I can wait.

A man with flaming orange hair who refers to himself as King Luap shouldn't be critical of anyone... Y'know - that whole people in glass houses throwing stones, thing.

I don't necessarily agree with Paul's politics--and I will argue with him directly on them point for point. I may think he's wrong, but the color of his hair won't be the reason.
It's clear a person has no logical points of political debate when he has to stoop to ad hominem attacks against how someone's hair looks. That's a step below "Aww yer momma wears army shoes!"
I know one thing Mr. Buff, your political commentary/rant is inappropriate in a topic about one of your products. Save it for the appropriate time and place! Makes me wonder how you treat your employees.
Frankly I expected nothing less from him. Paul seems to be incapable of separating business and politics lately. I just hope all the people who have been waiting since last august to buy these haven't lost any income from their absence.
Can you tell us anything about the new flash shipping date.
Will it be out this month or not?
I for one would like to know so i can go ahead and buy other items and start using them or wait a week or so more for this..
I am also waiting for the new Radio Popper JrX that is sad to control the ABs and let you shoot at higher sync speeds.
Is the new commander going to offer something like this with the Einstein.
The JRx is due out next week and i can buy them right away or should i wait for the Einstein maybe with a better high speed sync solution.
I do not want to buy into the wrong thing.
I know its crazy to ask but will the Einstein offer a slow flash mode so this concept will work better with the RP JrX for high speed sync.

Mr. Buff I appreciate your point of view and where it comes from, but in a group of artists you may not(will not) find agreement. But you are a hugely successful business man and have the true spirit of entrepreneurship and well many of them don't, lol.
Maybe it will bring down a firestorm on me, but have you noticed when you shoot a GreTag card how much you need to adjust the color temperature to get to equal RGB numbers when using the WL beauty dish?
I changed to Broncolor to get the shot to shot color consistency, since I am using a 16 shot digital back in art reproduction.

I absolutely agree but that doesn't change the fact that countless people have been waiting for 8 months for these because they keep getting told next month, next month, next month.

I'm confused. Where in my reply do I digress into political debate? It's no secret that you're a big admirer and champion of all things Buff, so alleged "ad hominem" aside, let's focus on a man like Paul who lives his life in a manner rather distinctly from the staus quo (flaming orange hair, Martian Pink lights, self-proclaimed King Luap of the Alien Bee universe), which is not a bad thing -- it seems to make him happy -- yay for Paul.
However, in this rather critical world we live in, people like Paul, who's an artist and chooses to live his life in an outlandish, polychromatic way, one might suppose that he'd be more sensitive to the effects of public criticism and demonstrate a measure of tolerance for those who think differently. Thus my reference to his colored hair and people who living in glass houses.
So it's not a political debate or stooping or personal attacks. Nor is it a stab at emotion as you suggest. It's more akin to logic and reason, no? As Paul suggests in his post. I'm just taking a moment to walk a mile in his shoes.

The problem is you responded to political comment with an ad hominism.
However, in this rather critical world we live in, people like Paul, who's an artist and chooses to live his life in an outlandish, polychromatic way,
What do you know about the way Paul chooses to live his life other than the color of his hair? Why are you judging the way he "chooses to live his life" as "outlandish" by his hair color?
The fact that he's running a small manufacturing business that continues to be succssful in such hard times suggests that the way he "chooses to live his life" is "outlandish" in comparison to AIG, General Motors, and Chrysler.
It's no secret that you're a big admirer and champion of all things Buff,
I like his products and I like the way he runs his business. You have no idea about what I think of other "things Buff."
As far as being an admirer of "all things Buff," I'm actually, I'm currently in a continued political debate with Paul about his political views on his own website.
So it's not a political debate or stooping or personal attacks. Nor is it a stab at emotion as you suggest. It's more akin to logic and reason, no?
No, there is no "logic and reason" in basing an opinon of "outlandish" on the way a person "runs his life" based on his hair color.

The color I choose to put on my hair and the tongue in cheek marketing (which my customers understand and chuckle about) is supposed to nullify my freedom of speech?? But it's OK for the Paris Hiltons and Madonnas?
How I choose to live does not result in laws of governance or control over people's lives. It only affects whether or not my customers choose to buy what I offer.
Some think they have every right to be critical of me, yet think I have no right of criticism. I believe freedom of speech, as defined by our founding fathers predominantly protects the rights of citizens to criticize the government they are supposedly represented by.
For sure, it also allows one to criticize what one might consider eccentricity of others as well. So throw your stones and I'll throw mine. I one doesn't like who I am r what I have to say they don't have to buy my products. Maybe Barney and Nancy will produce a better flash system for the offended.
BrianO wrote: I thought this was a thread about Paul Buff's Einsteins, not about Paul Buff.
According to RD this is a political debate.
Paul & RD - my point was wrapped up rather succinctly with the "people who live in glass houses" analogy, yet you continue to argue and expound that you can criticize others because, well, others do it to you (what better reason to stop criticizing others?), or in the case of RD, because this is some dignified political discourse, as evidenced in Paul's illuminating comment, "As for TARP funds, we certainly don't want or need any "help" from big bro. He can go to H where he can't screw up the country for the next 20 years."
I find it striking, RD, that a person involved with the creation of imagery (photography) would completely disregard the impact a visual representation has upon the human animal. If your daughter brought home a younger version of Paul, with his flaming red hair, and proclamations of being King Luap, even in jest, and perhaps bragging that he makes pink and green-colored lights for professional photographers, any father would have to initially work hard to keep an open mind and not make a hasty judgement about his character.
I get it - you're being defensive of Paul because you like him. You're invested in his lights, which you own - and perhaps this causes some self-reflection of your own worth when Paul's character is called into question. And while you keep focusing on the hair, you omit the full picture by disregarding the King Luap reference, his repeated argumentative and self-aggrandizing statements on these boards and the colored lights - which I don't paint in a negative light. Paul is a colorful character that is distinctive from the average person, and I like that. I rather find him amusing, intelligent and almost always entertaining. Ironically, your arguments in this matter are an ad hominem -- all emotion, no logic.
Hey, I didn't start the political comments - I replied to others.
I think some on here have trouble separating playful and colorful marketing and personal expression with arrogance. Photography is supposed to be about creative imagery and so am I. King Luap is not some sort of evil dictator - he is a actually a playful friendly character - ask any of his many many customers or employees.
The best advise I ever got in life was "Thou shalt not take thyself too seriously". I highly recommend this to others who seem hung up demanding things be how they would like them to be.
Perhaps I should post a flash graphic where up tight readers with no sense of humor or adventure could throw virtual stones and dunk Luap into a big bucket of acid. What a thrill!!
