Hello, thought I would post this in the nikon forum to show my first results with my new 600. The link below is from today @ lowers and so far I love this lens. The first shot on the site is the first shot from the lens. http://bhwatershots.com/600vr/
Have to say I am pretty damm happy so far. I can not wait to really but this lens through the ringer. As is with my standard luck looks like the swell will go flat for a few days here in so cal. Now all I need is a d3 to hang behind the beast! Will try to post some more shots in the near future if the swell shows up. On a side not anyone who can hand hold this beast please send me your workout tips! I tried when I got home on some humming birds and well lets just say those shots will never be seen again!
redgrom, when I get your 500mm afs lens I plan to shoot surfing as well... but since I'm in norcal I'll be shooting at Mavericks. So your old lens will still be doing what it likes to do
Good news the lens knows it way around mavericks! Well but the few times I have tried to shoot it the salt mist was so heavy I chickened out ( really was not that good I kept telling myself ). Anyway when the big west's start to show post some shots so we all can check them out. I really need to get up this season and shoot from a boat or off the back of a ski.
I took a few hand-held shots with my 600 (this version is a bit heavier than the new one) and I think I'll just keep them to myself too! So I guess the technique would be to use a tripod. You just hand-hold it to get it up there. Problem solved!
d300, and the shots were @ lowers ( San Clemente) < yeah I think the key to hand holding this beast is only hold it till you lock it down on the tripod.
We are going to have to get together some time to go shooting - you're just up the road from me (I'm in Oceanside and work in San Clemente.) I don't have your skill level, but I'd love to compare the new 600 to the old. Not that I can afford one, but it would still be nice to see what the newer offering gives you. I could always bring the D700 along to give a glance at what the D3 might be able to do. Again, nice shots.
feel free to pm me or send me a email if you feel like shooting some time, pretty busy for september but if you are going to be up this way let me know.
