Wow... what spectacular photos! They give me goosebumps, not to mention an even greater sense of appreciation for and enjoyment of traditional Chinese culture.

Unless the images, were taken with Canon gear, the topic in itself is already on the fence of being not appropriate on the Canon Forum. Guys, please leave "political views" off this thread; right, wrong or indifferent as this is a strictly photography forum.

Only six? That is hard! But they are still great! So who is talking about AF-problems?
It looks amazing. Great and happy. I would never have imagined THIS is a fascistic diktatorship.

Simply wonderful images of an amazing show.

I'm afraid these games will always be tainted by what happened before them. It's a shame actually, sports and politics don't mix that well.

Still, that doesn't mean those photos are nothing short of stunning. Everybody, emjoy the games!

The ceremony was excellent. It's a shame it was delayed for TV broadcast in North America. It looks like I'll be watching most of the stuff live online...

How do we know these weren't manually focused?

No way! In such horrible light conditions its not possible to find manual focus!

Ah! That reminds me I wanted to ask all that AL-focus debate, why sports and animal photographers today are not able any longer to find their focus manually? That is the power an DSLR gives you. It worked for more than 50 years and made SLRs important. There is enough light to focus manually in most sport activities, I think.

These are more beautiful than the coverage from CCTV I watched earlier today.

Wow awesome pictures... I was going to watch the opening ceremonies on TV, but now I feel foolish for thinking it actually starts at 6:30pm prime time

I have been watching the games as they have been broadcast. And the most noticeable statistic, that I have seen, is the equal use of Canon & Nikon gear. For close up's I see both D3's & MK3's with respective WA's & Speedlites. For long shots, it appears that the 400 & 500's are the most common telephoto's between C & N. Just an observation. Either way, the images that are coming out of Beijing are amazing.
