Has anyone purchased Thom Hogan's d300 guide? I'm thinking about purchasing it to familiarize myself more with my new camera Any comments?

IMO save your money and just read the manual. The camera is pretty easy to figure out and there are tons of free online stuff about the camera.

I was having a problem figuring out how to bracket more than one stop in either direction, asked Nikon they said it couldn't be done. Nikon also said that they might do it in a software upgrade.Tom explains it and 3 or 5 exposures are possible. Worth every cent. Len

I bought one of Thom's guides for the D200 before buying the camera to get an in-depth view of how it worked and what the capabilities were. I was not disappointed ineither the camera or the guide. I still use it from time to time for fine points. A worthwhile investment.

His books are comprehensive, and a good future resource.
Sometimes you can read a large portion and think 'oh, okay, I knew that' but every now and again you get the 'oh REALLY? I didn't know that' moment that makes the book worth every penny.
At least that's how I felt with the S2pro eBook he had out.
Reading the manual helps too But sometimes people put things in a way that is easier to comprehend than a manual. Thom is also (or at least was) very helpful and good about replying to real emails.
Chances are you'll benefit for something in his book.

Do I think it's worth it?
Let's see, I bought his book on the D70, D200, D300 and a D80 guide for a friend.
Hogan not only explains what a setting does, but talks about the circumstances under which you might want to use it (i.e., why you might want to use that setting).
He also tells you what setting he has decided to use and why.
Excellent reference!
