Heh, read it and saw that the thread is full of people
a) surprised that the second time they open something, it opens quicker
b) suffering from wishful thinking
c) just trying to justify the time they wasted doing this
d) computer experts who say there's no way this can work. But it does.
Darn item d). Am I going to have to spend *another* evening trying to get NX to work?
Indeed it works. I performed this last night and noted that the before redraw times of an image going from one size to another was approximately 3 full seconds for the entire image. Now it's about half a second. Even opening up an entire group of thumbnails took forever before (around 15 seconds for 20 images). I noted last night after the update it loaded 30 thumbnails in 5 seconds. The program "snaps" now where as before it loafed along. A definite difference to be sure......
Have not tried the recommendation, but prior to installing NX2 demo, I recall an installation of a set of C++ libs - does anyone know if they are different than those referenced in the OP? <see below>
Just checked in Control Panel and the SP1, 2005 version, is the only one installed. The only MS C++ libs installed on this machine (I try to keep it free of that unnecessary overhead) are those done in conjunction with NX2 demo, so it would seem the demo installs proper libs, or at least those listed on DPR.
What is not answered is whether or not NX2 runs slower with post-SP1 C++ runtime modules that might have been present prior to the installation of NX (assumes NX detects runtime modules presence and does not re-install for versions later than those in SP1 since this could potentially trash other apps).
Wow, huge difference. Haven't tried it on my desktop at home but it is much faster on my old slow laptop. Nothing scientific but at least twice as fast opening an image from NX2 to CS.
I was very curious so i gave it a try... I did not have any issues on my quad core machine, but it looks even faster now. Maybe it's between my ears, but it's pretty fast.
So killer tip... Thanks
Well I tried it even though it appears I already had SP1, and that's what I've ended up with back again and there's no difference in performance. It's reasonably OK, some commands are quicker than others, every now and again the controls freeze for several seconds, zooming can be instant or take 5s, that sort of thing. Usable, but not really if you've used other packages. Just lately I've been using Lightroom a lot, and even on the small scale I get up to I'm afraid NX2 doesn't hold a candle to LR for sheer bang-bang usability. Roll on August and LR2!
One thing that really bugs me is that when I first installed NX2 it was alot faster than NX1 but lately it has been slowing down quite a bit and I just fired up NX1 did the exact same thing as in NX2 and it really was slower. Sometimes NX really frustrates me but I just love the images it produces. I am however not sure if I should even consider the upgrade
