Boy--the Samyang/Rokinon 85 sure draws some pretty bokeh for very little money!

Here are three from the Canon "Holy Trinity":

#1. 35L @ f1.4 on 1DsII

#2. 85L @ f1.2 on 1DsII

#3. 135L @ f2 on 1DsII

Voeboe, nice to see some samples from the 77mm ltd!

did you use a pentax body or was the lens adapted to FF canon?

Thanks Empire. I used a Pentax.

The IQ from that Limited looks great...

M8 + Voigtländer 28/2 Ultron @ f/2:

The last one is me, shot by a friend of mine. His first try ever with a rangefinder.
The Ultron 28/2 has alot of character and is sharp as hell wide open. I love the bokeh, which is on the edge of "harsh", but still not.

I used the Ultron 28/2 for a short week once, trying to use it as a normal lens on a G1. I loved the images, really liked the bokeh, and finally had to return it due to the problems with smeared edges and corners. Those Leica "offset" microlenses are a bless I assume.

The corners are not very sharp on M8, but OK for anything I do. I think there's some curvature of field too. Distortion is virtually absent on the APS-H sensor!

Unfortunately, that's not possible since the rear lens element is ~15 mm from the film/sensor plane.

Voigtlander needs to make a 20/2 or 20/1.4 in some SLR mount for $1100.

One of the oldies. Not sure if i've posted this before.
Not alternative. Canon EOS 40D with 85mm f/1.2L II near MFD
Notice the "bullseye" on the bokeh.

Yes, the mark I of the 85L has it too. I thought it was a filter, but nope. Dumb vegetable bokeh.

Any lens with an aspherical element has a potential for onion bokeh.

It was much more pronounced with my UE code copy of the 85L mkI - I have a very hard time provoking it with my mkII. As TWoK said, the potential for this kind of bokeh signature is related to having an aspherical element.

just joined FM and since i'm on a fairly tight budget i have mostly alt lenses, thought i'd add a few bokeh shots from some of them.

rokkor MD 50mm f/1.2 @f/2:
1)

same lens at f/1.2 - bokeh is quite a bit busier but no more hexagons:
2)

3)

4)

a shot with a bit more distant subject (still f/1.2):
5)

This image is copyrighted by the owner

since i got this lens mainly for low light narrow dof this is the only shot i've put up so far with the lens stopped down a fair amount that has any kind of background to blur - shot at either f/5.6 or f/8 can't remember:
6)

all these shots were taken on 4/3 camera so they give an idea of the lens performance on 4/3 or µ4/3, not sure if this lens is mountable on a full frame camera.
