Had some some surprise visitors when I got home the other evening, was a rainy day but had cleared off so off we went for a short hike. Two of my grandkids, my 40D with a Tamron 70-300 Di. It was getting late so a rather quick walk and a few fun finds for them.
My grandson, Anthony, came upon this Killdeer right after I had showed him where the other nest was a few weeks ago I took pics of, the find rather startled him because he almost stepped on this nest tender We all sat down close to enjoy and study this one a bit.
Later on at dusk I spotted this dear bedding down and we were able to get very close and then it stood up for a little treat for the kids, my grandaughter, Brianna was quite thrilled
Not much to brag about in quality but a very fun short hike together, that was good for me
Just a few to share............thanks for looking.
Karl
1 Just startled enough to lift off the nest of eggs
2 Not going to leave no matter what
3 Lets settle back down
Super shots Karl. I think I like number two and the two in the last one. Good job. I see your deer are just changing colour now. The ones around here are too shabby to photograph.
Karl, great to bring the kids out to see and understand nature! They do see to be excited about it. Really, what kid needs a walking stick! Damn I can remember being a kid and doing just that. Good on you. Also great shot of these guys, very nice family shot.
Also good on you for not scaring the killdeer off of the nest and teaching the kids that, very important. See it don't disturb it. I don't think enough of us believe in that. Sorry off of my high horse now.
Looks like lovely evening or morning light on the birdies. Gotta love that. I really like 5 something so innocent about it.
Karl, those first two kildeer shots are excellent. The poses on the deer are great, but I wonder if cropping both of those closer would look better. And of course the grandkids -- great of you to take them out and enhance their appreciation of nature and wildlife. Maybe we will see the pictures they take on this Forum in a few years?
I always enjoy posts where I see something that makes things a bit personal. Your grandkids look like they'll grow up to appreciate the outdoors! Did you tell 'em they'll be on the Internet for all the world to see? Lovely shots of both Kildeer and deer, too. Both photos and narration give this post a "feel-good" feeling, and that's a good way to start off my day... Thanks, Karl!

Thanks so much Rob, it's good to find someone to share these things with, every one of these outings counts with them at this age.

Great shots my friend.

Tim my friend, I agree with your comments, If no one tells them or shows them they just don't know. They did very well on this outing and showed great respect and interest.
Of course every kid needs a walking stick
Late evening light/glow was just coming on when we found the killdeer, the deer experience was very neat, that little one actually came toward us at one point to feed on some leaves, my grandson was not sure what we should do it hushed them both for a few minutes while we watched.
Thanks for your special comments.
Nice pictures of the Killdeer and nest. Beautiful pics of the deer. What a great experience it must have been for the kids!
Bob
Appreciate the kind comments Bob, it was a treat for all of us

Yes Steve, amazing how a little time doing nothing can have so much meaning, I just hope these memories are around long after I am gone, that's what counts to me. It made the ending of day great for me, glad it started one for you Thanks much
Karl, I'm sure your grandkids will always remember those walks and will always appreciate and respect the beauty of nature. You are a good grandfather..., and a good photographer. Lighting is warm and sweet, color and detail very good. The deer seems to be pretty confortable around you people. Not so around my place
Well done.

Karl, nice series. This reminds me that I have to take out my Sigma 70-300mm quite often. Super captures. You got smart grandkids.
Jude
Thank you Jude, my Tamron AF couldn't be any slower but the optics are pretty impressive as well as its ability to close focus, works well when just taking one lens. I will agree on the grandkids

It looks like you've got a few young naturalists on your hands... watch out, you'll never know what those types will do!
Ah I'm just kidding.... I'm still trying to get the X-box controller out of my little brother's hands and a pair of binos around his neck.
Josh
I think they like to carry the binos more than use them, most important walking stick too Thanks for commenting Josh!
