Chris amazing shots, wonderful behaivioural stuff. The fact that the head is removed from the snake, just plain amazing! Too cool and very well done. Wow, I learned something from this, thanks.
Tim Thank you, Tim. This is a great forum for learning.

amazing shots Chris. Was that a rattler? Hey, Thang. How are you. Haven't posted for about 3 months, but do get to check in on occasion. That was one big ol rattler, with 8 buttons which I think because it has its first button makes it about 4 yrs. old. Anyone on this?

Very cool. I was just telling some of my students how hawks eat snakes. Nice story in these shots.
Jon Thank you. It was interesting to see how she cut the head off the big rattler but left it on the small one.
Great shots. Amazing and very cool to see. Thanks for sharing.
Good to hear from you. Haven't posted in quite awhile, just been very busy, but I see a break coming up to get out more.

Great captures, and what a brave food source for the RTH to go after.
Thank you, she seems to bring in more snakes than the male, but she is bigger and meaner.

Great series Chris, Now we all know "What's for dinner?" with Red-Tails. The rattlesnake series is truly amazing. What is the area where the RT's might have caught the snake ie, state, city, forest, park etc. Thank you, Gene. They hunt in a mixed area of homes and business parks with a golf course very close by they seem to concentrate their efforts over. The snakes likely come from the sage scrub in the open areas.
Gene Hey, Gene. So good to hear from you. Hope all is well. Been extremely busy with some building projects, but Johnny Bravo and I got to go to High Island last month and then I got to spend 4 days down at S. Padre island with Vic Murayama, both trips were fantastic! Hope to see you out here soon.

Just a fantastic series, Chris! How lucky you are indeed to have witnessed this for the past 3 years. I watched a Red-tailed nest on a building ledge in 2005 and had been waiting for their return, but the window-washers took the nest away earlier this year.. #6 is awesome.
Best Wishes,
Steve Thank you, Steve. Once they've layed there eggs. they are protected, so if they return ever tell the building owners. These hawks had their nest removed the 1st year but were persistent and rebuilt right away and we were able to stop them from removing the 2nd nest. Now the owners are incredibly proud of "their" hawks and block off a section of the parking area below the nest to accomadate them and keep the cars clean as well.
