p.1 #1 · Album Design Software

I see YSI (You Select It) is having a 50% discount on its software..

anyone familiar with this and can comment on whether it's good to use?
Pros? Cons?
I can't use Fotofusion, and learning In Design is an option, but it'll take time.
How's YSI compared to say.. page gallery?

Also, discount is regular business or is it a sign a newer version is releasing?

Thanks!

Mark,

Why can't you use Fotofusion? I find it a very good software. Maybe I am missing something.

Page Gallery and YSI are the two best out there. Why don't you download the demo and play?

Mark I would not use anything but YSI. I can design a 40 side album in about 2 hours. the great thing about YSI is you can just layout in the program and do the creative stuff in PS. The program will export all the PSD files it creates.

Hope that helps?

I'd love some software to speed things up rather than coming up with my own designs in PS. I just don't do enough to warrant the expense.

Fotofusion looks a little more user friendly (if, perhaps, not as flexible) than YSI. Anyone tried both care to comment?

That is understandable, I design a lot of albums and the studio I work for doesn't like them to be repetitive.

Is Fotofusion and YSI compatible with a Mac?

I started out designing by "hand" in PS... I now use YSI. I took the time to create my own templates so that it's exactly what I like and not just their standard ones (which can be too busy for my taste)... but once that was done I was in heaven.

You can't use FotoFusion on a Mac, unfortunately. I don't know about YSI...

There is a great little training video for InDesign that is on the web for about $35, I think. Kevin Swan puts it out. Most everything you need to know to get going. Also, there are a few sources for pre-made InDesign templates, which cuts down on time. I bought one that has about 700 templates...! Pretty simple designs, not too busy. So, if you already have InDesign, it might be the cheapest way to go.

Because Fotofusion only runs on Windows, and I rather be kicked in the face than use Windows. (though i do have bootcamp installed for games)

I don't wanna pay for Fusion/Parallel, virtual OS doesn't appeal to me.

I hear Fotofusion is awsome, too bad they don't build Mac support.
Odd considering it's a Photo software, and how many pros photographer/graphic designers use Mac out there...

DG Foto Art Gold. There are hundreds of templates to choose from, but it is so flexible you can change anything or create and save your own templates. It costs a pretty penny, but it is well worth it for the time it has saved.

How well do these play with Asuka? I read one blurb on the YSI forum about you having to monkey with some stuff to fit into Asuka's scheme. I've downloaded both. I've got a wedding tomorrow and another wedding still to process but I'll try to play with them this weekend.

+1 for looking for Mac software for album design. Fotofusion also is a no go due to that limit and I sent them email letting them know that. I urge all other Mac users who pass them by due to this to let them know, perhaps someday they'll suport us.
