I know I am new here but when a person posts pics to be looked at.They at least should leave a comment,If you have time to look you have time to be considerate and leave a reply.
I respectfully disagree. I typically read over 50 threads a day. I see some very good pictures and I often comment. I see some very bad pictures and I often comment. I see many pictures that fall in between these two extremes and I do not comment as I really have nothing to say other than "I saw your picture."
I certainly don't expect everyone who looks at my pictures to comment. The fact that I do not comment on a picture is not a measure of disrespect. I was always taught that if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all and I try to ascribe to that unless there are obvious flaws in the picture.
And if I took the time to leave meaningful feedback on every image I looked at I wouldn't have time to look at other images. So, if I felt compelled to reply to every single image I look at, better get used to a bunch of one word - sucks/great - completely worthless replies.
My pet peeve - people who post images, with no request for c&C and then post completely lame followup replies like "gee these must really suck - 70 views and no comments". Seems to be nothing more than trolling for compliments.

Welcome to FM. I completely disagree with your statement. There are innumerable reasons why any of us might choose to look without leaving comments, and there's no good reason why we should feel obligated to comment if/when we choose not to. There's all sorts of things that can be accomplished by viewing (without having to comment). I can decide I'd like to see more of the person's work and follow the link to their website. I can try to learn more about them by following the link to their other posts. I can learn from their photos and the comments they've received. And on and on. This site serves many purposes for many people at many different stages of learning and mastering photography. Thus, which posts we choose to 'visit' and comment (or not) on will differ for each of us. That should be (and is) just fine.
I'll agree with all those that disagree. While we're at it I think rating threads is gay...

Photos that are not related to the forum subject of "Canon-mount SLRs" don't belong here in my view. Just because a photo was shot on one of these cameras doesn't make it appropriate to post your personal work here for no other reason than that you want it seen.
Posting photos - in small numbers and small sizes - that illustrate legitimate forum topics seems completely appropriate. If you want to post many photos or very large photos I think it is appropriate to post links to them rather than posting large numbers of images and or giant versions.
It is entirely appropriate to post your personal work for public enjoyment at your own web site or in forums designed for that purpose or at any of the many sites that exist to support that.
Agree with all the disagreerers. If someone posts a photo it is up to them to post a good enough photo to evoke an emotional enough response to compel someone to post. I also agree with Dan's comment. This is not a samples gallery.

If you disagree with an agree-er is it the same as agreeing with a disagree-er and does the agree-ee or disagree-ee in either case feel obligated to agree or disagree with the agree-er or disagree-er.

And I think you should send a PM to Fred expressing your feelings.
regarding always posting a comment, sometimes the best thing you can say is nothing..
Often in the landscape forum, my lack of reply is my comment. Many images there just don't merit constructive criticism, much less praise. And I see my own images posted this way too, if I have a low "comment to click" ratio I know my photo lacks interest.
