p.1 #1 · removing ink smear on print

Wanted to know if anyone has a good method for removing some ink smear from a print. I printed some images on 13x19 canvas and I think because it was so thick there was a little ink smear on the corner along the border area. Is there some solution or method to remove this short of cutting out the border? It'd be a waste to remove the edge or to toss the print since everything else came out fine. Suggestions?

I think the solution is to toss it and print it again so nobody has a different option for you.

I'm sure many of us have had this happen.

Waycool nailed it.

How would any solution be able to discern from the bad ink (the smear) and the good ink (the image). It's not that you can't remove the ink smear ... but anything that would do so would also remove the good ink.

I would also be interested to know. I have a pack of Crane Museo SIlver Rag and my R2400 consistently smears the ink on the right corner. ( does not do it for any other paper) I do not need to separate good ink from bad as the smear is on the border I leave for matting/framing

It sounds like your paper may have some curl to it. You may try to carefully "decurl" the trailing end before printing. Other options is using a little larger paper so you can cut it off.

I know of no way to remove ink from a paper other than cutting it off.

Smeared ink?

I think it's like how comedian Lenny Bruce described getting snot on a suede jacket and how to "clean" it. There's only one thing that you can do if you get snot on a suede jacket----ya gotta snot over the entire jacket!

So your options are to snot over the rest of the print, I mean, smear ink over the rest of the print.....oh, uh, yeah----you can just throw it out and start over.....

p.s. Pec 12 might remove the ink---but probably will ruin the print surface as well.

I'm talking about ink along the side of a print, there's some assumption about separating good ink from bad when this isn't the case. Yes, one thing I can do as VladKenner has done is to use the border area for framing but it still would be nice to find a solvent or cleaner that can get rid of it just for a cleaner appearance when not being framed. Certainly throwing it out is an option, but that's not very helpful advice I thought there's more creative suggestions than that.

I can't think of any substance that would clean off the ink, yet not leave either horrible smudge marks on the edge of the page or totally destroy the look of the paper (ie changing the colour of the paper etc) in that area.
