p.1 #1 · Yellowstone Camping suggestions

Quite Possible i'm going up in a couple of weeks, just for the weekend.

I know that everywhere is close to evertywhere else, but I'm wondering for using a pop-up type camper, is somewhere "better" than someother-where?

Any recommendations for better-than -normal wildlife locals?

Thanks, Bob

I really like Madison Junction campground. I haven't been to Yellowstone since the fires, though, so I don't know if that escaped them; I wouldn't like to camp in a burn area.

For me personaly I like to camp as close to where I am photographing regardless of the type of campsite. If its a place for a camper/rv or a primitive tent campsite, that is where I like to be. This way regardles of how early or late you get up you don't have to waste time driving that could be spent sleeping or better yet capturing those precious imiages. I know that some people will declare thier need for comfort but to me if I want comfort I will stay at home. If I want spectacular photoss then I go where they are and stay where they are. I always stay at the closest possible camp spot to where I am shooting
I have spent many a night car camping as well as long distance(several days) backpacking.

We've never been there but are going this June in our 31' RV and are staying at Fishing Bridge RV park inside Yellowstone. I got the last spot for the days I was gonna be there, so if you're gonna reserve a spot I would do it as soon as possible.

Have a great trip!

Bridge Bay or Grant for the south end, Canyon for ... the canyon area. Madison is on the western side near West Yellowstone, but not burned. Old Faithful, of course, for the geyser areas. Lots of other places too.

Yellowstone is a much larger place than most people think. It can take an hour to get from Fishing Bridge to Old Faithful on a good summer day; 2 hours to get to Mammoth from Fishing Bridge. It is a great place to spend time and of course the Tetons are only 2 hours south.
