p.1 #1 · Introductions and Swallows...

Hey Everyone,

I guess you cant say I am new to fredmiranda but I have a feeling that I am going to be spending a whole lot more time over on this side of the fence. I have been passionate about portraits for the last few years and finally have the means to invest in some extra time out in the wild.

I have a feeling that I might have bitten off a bit more than I can chew but after a few hours of shooting I feel like I came away with something I can post. Keep in mind my longest focal length at the moment is 200mm and for birding it really is not even close to enough without disturbing the birds or getting wet. I have a 300 2.8 on the way and some teleconverters as well...

First off I have some Barn Swallows to share. Interesting to watch and certainly to see them fight. I wish I could have gotten a better shutter speed but under that bridge was so dark.

Uh oh, a bit of a scuffle in three ad four. Very nice though. I haven't gotten up the courage to do birds, I tried a bumble bee in flight, but he was just too fast for me.

I'll have to get out and do some birds, I got some big blue hued birds that linger around, maybe I can catch em when they enjoy the pond.

One thing I know is that these little buggers are quick! I look forward to seeing more from you in the future! Especially if you ever catch up to that bumble bee

I have one of him sitting on a flower... http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/640628/0#5691753

That's the best I could do.. He was sure fast for how big he was.. sounds like a fighter jet flying through.

Welcome, that is quite the tussle you captured! Those guys aren't easy to catch in flight. I'm sure you will love that 300 when it arrives, that is one very nice lens. Looking forward to see what you can do with it!!

Nice work, notoriously difficult to capture these birds, you've done a good job.

Welcome. I spent my time lurking and have enjoying coming out of the weeds.

Though the principles of photography are the same, I find this sort of photog different in 1000 ways as compared to say, landscape shooting. This doesn't mean I know what I'm doing, but it's fun.... there's a lot of elements to get right - some of us do it more often than others.
