Thanks for the comments, guys. Particularly Nick re: nice lighting. I used the assigment as a lighting exercise. If anybody is interested it's two lights plus a reflector panel. The medium softbox camera right is obvious. Given the short lighting set-up, and the fact that it is a toy I didn't want too dramatic a ratio left-to-right, but also didn't want another set of highlights running down his right side, so there a large fill card camera left, you can make out the reflection on his right side. Finally there is a snoot almost directly overhead and on the shadow side, to provide the highlights on his antenna and the key. Here's what just that "hair" light looked like:
Anyway, not much of a photo but an interesting lighting exercise. If anybody writes a book on lighting shiney things, I'd be one of the first to buy it
