Also be aware that any AF Microadjustments you may have made have been thrown out the window, so make sure you re-calibrate any lenses you may have set offsets for, because they will be off now with the new F/W, at least that is what I have observed with mine.

Can you clarify - my settings seem to have been preserved. Do you mean that you need to set new AF microadjustment settings?

Update: I've just tested all my lenses (on the 1DMkIII), and there was no need for recalibration to settings different from the ones I had prior to the firmware upgrade...

Hey - the Spaniards get the quality compared to Australia. They really were the scum! ;-)

Do you mean that the new update will correct this from yesterday, oh how I will miss these shots

My own very, very quick test, suggest they won't be strangers just yet!

That said I do have sharper images so ~~~ we'll see how it settles in, fingies crossed

Downloaded and installed 1.2.3 a couple of hours ago (why is it such a harrowing experience - I sit there for a few minutes expecting that blue line to grind to a halt?!) and had a play around with my 100-400 attached.

I never had the disastrous AF problems but suddenly the AF seems much more precise and quicker to lock on (the 100-400 was always a bit sluggish in this respect). Have taken 100 or so shots and there is nothing wrong that cannot be attributed to user error. I use centre AF point expanded to the two left and right points and one thing I definitely do notice is that it no longer "hunts" on a static subject in either AI Servo or One Shot.

Might pop down to the marina later to shoot some gulls in flight, but at the moment everything is looking good.

Loving the joystick AF selection. Also trying the ISO/Exposure comp switch. It definately makes adjusting ISO while viewing shutter change simultaneously (Av mode) and immediately. Putting the exposure comp toggle with the ISO button is easy to reach in horizontal, but what about ine the verticle position?

To Clarify: I noticed that I did not need the microadjustments anymore. I only had them in for 2 lenses and neither one needed them anymore after the f/w update. This is on a 1Ds model.

FYI, Ron and I gave our M3 cameras a whirl today with the new firmware installed 1.2.3, We both noticed a very warm and "long coming" welcome improvement in the amount of keepers we received.

We were photographing everything in "AIservo" mode. We were taking photos of Ducks, Swans and Osprey, all in flight.

That's a reliable firsthand feedback i have to believe.

With my 1Ds Mark III i do see quicker lock on the AF and the image is sharper for what i shoot with every cameras i had due to the better AF i believe, it's improving for sure....
