G-EOS adapter latest status?

Anyone get their nikon-g to EOS lens adapter yet?
There has been no new status updates on mark's 16-9 website and I am getting worried that I may be more problems/delays.
Have been waiting since xmas when I bought the nikon 14-24 g lens.Have been using it on my 5d with the aperture fixed by a piece of matchstick so that it is around f8 with fotodiox adapter.
Now have 1dsmk3 and am really needing this adapter.

It must be killing you to already have the lens! I am also waiting with no feedback so far. I hope Mark is hard at work getting these ready.

I'm sure you already know the details on the website. According to that info, they should have shipped within one week of arriving on April 4th:

As soon as they arrive back in the UK, they will ship within a week. Further updates will appear here as news comes in.

Friday April 4th: First batch arrive in UK for final modification and packing

If I had paid for one with the original delivery date of 3-4 weeks (back in December), I would be asking for a refund. I'm sure the Chinese, and other manufacturers, will be releasing their own version soon enough. They are likely to be cheaper, or have some type of lever adjustment for the aperture for a similar cost. I know my main interest in getting one from Mark was to have something I could use before they became readiliy available. I'm not sure that's going to be the case much longer.

I agree. People should be asking for their money back. Plenty of time has been given.

I have already refunded quite a few payments, and was happy to do so under the circumstances. I know a number of people have waited a long time for the adaptor.

However, the first batch of 23 are in today's post and we have secured a more reliable supply chain for the key components.

Well I just checked and I don't see any refund on mine. Just so you know, even with a full refund, some of us will have to forfeit credit card charges by way of currency spread and with the lowered value of the Brit pound, we have to take another loss of currency exchange.

Now, when can I have that refund as I did email you again this morning with no reply.

Henry, doing business with Mark—who is trying to manufacture something unique, and whose supply of necessary parts is not in his control—is not like ordering something from Amazon. I just can't understand why you would want to cancel the order on the eve of actually getting something you can't get anywhere else. Please enlighten us.

As for having to pay credit card costs and worrying about currency fluctuations...jeez, Louise! CC charges are a fact of life, like death and taxes, and currency fluctuations can go either way. Just 2¢'s worth.

Kit,

The frustration was polite emails being ignored, including request for refund. I had to come to this forum to ask for that refund before I got a response. I run a business and if I or my vendor makes a mistake, I quickly respond and not just ignore my customers.

I don't know Mark from Adam so I don't judge his competency going about getting something done but like I said earlier, a short note to say "sorry but it will take another 10 days" or something would have been appreciated.

Henry, understand completely. Mark is overworked as many of us are, and he has been around this place for a long time and has made great contributions to the group.

Agree completely re. responsiveness via emails; it is something that we struggle here in my business with from time to time, simply though there not being more than 24 hours in a day! Cheers, KL

Congratulations to Mark for manufacturing this "one of a kind" adapter, (available nowhere else in the world) for us few fortunate ones. I placed my order with Mark back in mid-Feb. and did not worry about it. There were photos to shoot! I came to the conclusion that if Mark did not think he could pull it off, he would not be inviting us FMer's to the party. And that's what it will be shooting with this lens on my 5D!

Thanks again Mark, great job bringing this to reality!

There are definitely a few differences between me and Amazon . . . they have a teams of hundreds to reply to emails. Actually, it still takes them several days to get back to you. I've got me.

I also run our family business, design for advertising agencies and my own clients, do about 15 hours a week voluntary work – plus photography. So time spent developing adaptors and scribbling for 16:9 is very much a 'back-burner' project. Having said all that, the problem in getting the adaptors out hasn't been about my time so much as problems liaising with China. However, the adaptors are now working well and are shipping in batches.

I will update the web page with shipping status news every few days, and I've sent several emails to every buyer explaining the delay.

I really do appreciate how frustrating it is to have something so 'exciting' delayed but until this product is copied in the Far East, it's the only way for Canon users to get our hands on the lens. For me, it's been worth waiting for; I hope you feel the same way! If you don't – money back, no questions asked.

The lever version is being developed in collaboration with SRB Griturn in England. They have already produced a prototype demonstrating the feasibility of the plan, but – again – because it's a small project for them, progress is very, very sluggish. Ironically, I have little 'leverage' with which to rush them. If anyone would like to speed things along, by all means contact them to let them know that there is a demand for it . . . .

PayPal lets you refund within 60 days, without charging any PayPal fees. Still, as Henry noted, you will still be hit by currency exchange spread. When I do business using PayPal I always keep this 60-day rule in mind. That is the main reason why I almost never take advance bookings, for example on the Contax N 50/1.4 or the N 70-200, and at most only accept the lenses but not the conversion fee, unless you try really hard to persuade me.

I would recommend all of you to be patient - after all, you do want the G adapter more than you want your money back, don't you? Mark is taking a financial risk and investing time and money on R&D not for the purpose of getting rich, but purely out of passion with fine optics. If you guys share this passion, you also need to share this pain of waiting. I am sure you will be rewarded in the end.

Mark is doing his best, just can't imagine the pressure he is on right now. Good quality needs time.Your patience will be rewarded. I did request a refund because I decided to buy a Nikon body and won't be needing it. Going to the dark side I guess.

I'm one of Mark's customers who has NOT asked for a refund.

Mark has explained the difficulties on his website and offered refunds to everyone who has asked - which is a lot more than very many big organisations do [Canon & 1DIII ?] I'm rather grateful that he has a] had a good idea and b] been sufficiently public spirited and enterprising to go through all this hassle to share it.

How often does that happen ?

Mark,

Am I one of the lucky 23 people who will receive their adapter in this first batch?
If so when shall I expect to receive it in the US?

Thanks,

Wayne

Mark,

I'm on the wait list and I'm very grateful of your efforts and the efforts of all the other folks here that have focused their skills on unique do-it-yourself type projects like this to bring the very best gadgets and services for our little alternate gear forum. Everything from prototype adapters to mirror shaving to custom lens adjustments have been spawned here over the years. It's been exciting to be part of. I fully understand that most of the guys here doing this type of thing on the alt gear forum do it for the love of the art and nothing more. I also understand you've got bigger fish to fry, who doesn't with family, work, hobbies and various volunteer projects? This isn't your job and we understand that. We appreciate you taking the time to do this project for us, it's something I couldn't have done myself and I surely can't get anywhere else. So it's a great service. I hope a little brow beating you take and others have taken here for similar services doesn't persuade you or any other budding closet engineers here from coming up with the next got-to-have-doohickeys for our collective enjoyment. That would be a shame. But a little of that comes with the territory.

Can't wait to give it a spin.

Roland

+1 support for Mark.
Keep in mind that he totally expects someone to steal his design and is investing his time and money anyway.
