I'm starting with Lightroom but honestly afraid to go on with any more shoots because I can't decide whether i want to copy and import as a DNG file or simply use the file I already imported the pictures with. What are the pros and cons of importing as a DNG? And is it easier to import from a CF card directly into lightroom? I imagine it would take ages for me to copy and import as a DNG file (last time I imported from a files already on my computer). What do most of you do?
DNG is trying to emerge as the standard. The idea is that all the camera companies will be supporting the same format, and that the software companies will do the same. The fear is that 10 years from now, CR2 (Canon RAW) won't be supported by the software. I highly doubt that, but you can't go wrong. 50 years from now, there will be apps that will convert CR2 or any DNG to the current standard.
