I'm gonna give wedding photography a try. My background is as a photojounralist, so I don't have much images that would work for a wedding website and stuff.
To start off, a couple friends of mine have agreed to be my models for a day of portraits to get a website and business cards a start. I've even bought a discounted wedding dress and fake bouquet to use.
My main concern is locations. Besides some places like parks and the beach which would be good to do an engagement type session, where would anyone suggest? Since I don't have a wedding booked, I'm pretty limited on where I can go like a real church or something. BTW, I live near Ontario but I'm willing to travel anywhere in LA, Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.
ALSO, if anyone needs a shooter for a wedding in southern california I'm available. My non-wedding work can be viewed at: www.erictom.net.
Call a local church or two and ask about access for a practice session. I'd expect that if you avoid Saturdays and Sundays, it may not be that big a problem. English Springs Park in Chino Hills has a nice lake, waterfall, green trees, bird pooh. Call the city and check, they require permits for commercial work but if avoiding Saturday and Sunday, they may not bother you about it. Saturdays can be busy. We shot some family group shots in Claremont's Lewis Park. It's on Syracuse near the Alexander Hughes Community Center. Some interesting trees and floral planting areas. No permit issues when we were there.
How about Chaffey High School during off hours? I don't know what the rules are, but since it's not a paying gig, and if you were there say, early Sunday am, might not bother anyone. They have a lot of cool older buildings.
PS, I'm in the Pacific NW, I just know about CHS because I went there
Suzi .....you went to Chaffey ? I shoot there all the time.....im in Rancho Cucamonga...was there twice this past weekend........its open, free and very pretty.......
Saturdays and Sundays after 2pm are best as the sun will be on the west side of the property shaded by the building........great open shade lighting.

Ahhh, nothing accents fine natural lighting like a little bird pooh.
lol crazy geese, good times good times. My friend who's modeling actually mentioned English Springs, so that might be worth a try.
Thanks for the suggestion for Chaffey HS, I've been for the paper a couple times but never had the time to check out beyond the football field and gym.

Go Tigers!!
Yeah, Class of 75.
I remember that beautiful campus well. Glad to hear you're able to use it for shoots.
My Dad lives in RC, I visit him every year or so.
Well Rancho has grown so much........Victoria Gardens is amazing..unfortunately they don't allow any shooting there........its an old town look which would be great for engagements..........
