I'll be receiving this thursday 2 contax lenses...(35-70/3.4 and 100/2 Planar T*)
Where can I get the most reliable adapter for my 5D?
Will they be with AF confirmation?
Will the adapters be identical for the both lens?
I've read from past post that I need to shave the fin of the lens...Is there any other way to go around this method? (I'm scared to physically alter either the lens or the camera)

Sorry for the newbie questions....I thought I've done enough reasearch before ordering these lens, but I'm kinda cloudy in regards to the adapters.

I use Fotodiox pro adapter for my 35-70/5D, works ok except the mirror gets caught on verticle shots, mirror drops back when I turn the cam around back to horizontal though

It is preferable to modify the mirror rather than the lens. The mirror can be replaced but not the rear fin. However, don't try it yourself without lots of study first. You might get lucky and not have to do it - seems to be body specific. You can also use a thicker adapter to avoid mirror issues but then you give up true infinity focus.

If I bring my camera to a local camera repair shop, will they be able to modify the mirror? If so, does this mean that I do not need an adapter?
Also, if I modify the mirror, will there be any problem with current canon lenses?

Again, sorry for a lot of questions.

No local repair shop probably will not do it and you still need an adapter. The adapter allows the Contax lenses to fit the Canon mount. However, sometimes the edge of the 5D mirror hits the Contax lenses when the shutter is released. This does not cause any damage and if you release the lens from the Canon mount, the mirror returns to the normal position. But you don't want to do this each time you press the shutter. By shaving 2mm off the edge of the mirror, this solves the problem. However, this does not happen all the time. You may get lucky and your 5D may work fine.

My 35-70/3.4 doesn't hit the 5D mirror, but my Distagon 35/2.8 did. I recommend you trim the base of the lens, not the mirror. In most cases, it's the shield tab that protects the aperture control lever that hangs up on the mirror. One quick snip with a pair of wire cutters will solve that problem. OTOH, some lenses like the Distagon 15/3.5, 18/4 and Leica-R 15/3.5 may require a mirror adjustment. Consider the difference in value between the lens and camera before you decide which one to modify.

yes but if you trim the mirror, you can replace it. if you trim the lens, it is permanent

Haoda is having a sale right now on his auto-focus confirm adapters. More than half off I think. Highly recommended. I've bought several from him. They are beautifully made. I've had no trouble with my lenses hitting the mirror of my 5D.

I doubt you can get them right away, though. Takes a couple of weeks. You'll have to email him and see if he can expedite things.

I had problems with my 5D mirror hanging up on both the 35-70 and 28 CZ lenses when using happypagehk adapters. Had absolutely no problem in returning the happypagehk adapters. Tried a Bob Shell adapter and had the same problem (I would not recommend doing business with this guy). Eventually got the standard Fotodiox adapter to work with both lenses.
