I am thinking about buying another body for weddings. I have been using XXD's and would like to upgrade a bit. I'm torn between the awesome 1 series and the FF on the 5. The budget doesn't allow for a MKIII. I think my descision will come down to indoor (wedding) IQ. Anyone have a quick answer for me?
yup, i have to agree. 5d IQ is better than the 1dii. I now have a 1diii as well which i find pretty much equal with the 5d although at very high iso's it is better

not just hype. I wouldn't swap my 1DS3 or 1D3 for a a pallet load of 5d's. Not in the same league.
As for the OP.... 1 series for sure.
I made the paralells and comparisons based on usage for WEDDINGS as i shoot with both the 1D III and the 5D...I can honestly say that the image quality that i get from my 5D Is on par if not better than my 1 Series...The hype and steroids i was referring to are the obvious build speed and weather sealing advantages...Only.
I still stand by my opinion that the 5D is undoubtedly the best WEDDING camera on the market today ...Until its brother Mark the second is born of course.!
I feel the 5D would be the better camera wrt IQ. I have and use at weddings, a 5D, Mk3 and Mk2 and the 5D is a wonderful camera. I like the tonal range of the Mk3 and the af and build of the 1 series bodies, however given your choice, would choose the 5D. For a pallet load of 5Ds, I might swap my Mk3.. dunno??
I also feel that the 5D gives a more 3d pop to the images esp w/ great glass, ie L primes. I see it and get it, but all either don't or do not think it is worth it. The 5 also has similar settings to your 30, so the learning curve and the abilitly to change in crisis improves.
i had asked in another forum about the 5D which I have and the 1DsII.
All who used both said the 5D and 1DsII(16mp) image quality was very close but better hight ISO performance with the 5D. I am saving for the 1DsIII. i want to see a major improvement before spending thousands.

I would have to agree. Noise is good on both, but 5D produces amazing files.
i had the same decision as you do now-it came down to better high iso performance and IQ with the 5D-the 1DII has the advantages of better AF and weather sealing-however, the 5D also has a better/bigger LCD screen-5D IQ is amazing, that's why so many wedding pros use it-but either way, you'll get a good camera
I shot a 1Ds for a couple years - my daughter, a pro fashion shooter, was my second shooter with her 5D on one weddings. I hated the 1Ds ergonomics (push 2 buttons to do anything) but loved the macho 'big gun' but I finally tried her 5D and OMG, what a simple, light, sweet machine. Bought one and now I'm buying a second one for wedding backups. If it was a bit more rugged - it'd be the digital Leica. Very few weddings are done in the outback, in the rain or in combat situations . . . :8)
Both will get the job done. They are tools. Any major differences in the quality of images can be negated in post-processing.
That being said, if you're accepting money to shoot someone's once-in-a-lifetime event, you may want to consider the advantages of a 1D-series camera - such as water/weather resistance, faster AF, total redundancy in memory cards.
I love my 1DMK3 by the way - IQ is phenominal, and I can shoot in the rain if need be - to two memory cards at once, at 10FPS, at super clean high ISOs. Gotta love it.

5D > Mk II.
Someone mentioned high ISO on 1DsII not being so good. I was surprised to find that after a good clean up with noise ninja, the 1DsII files are still extremely good. The higher number of pixels seems to make the noise less destructive.
I see your in the states Aberdeen, but with your old country soggy name I think it practically attracts rain! I visited there there long time ago but Scotland sure lives up to the stereotype.
I'm a fan of the two slots myself. In anyevent Canon's feeling some heat so they going to put out a nice feature set with the next few releases I think....
Thanks for your input guys and gals. I rarely need the speed of a 1D and definitely don't need the fps. I'm also thinking swapping batteries with 30D's and 40D's would be great. Also I try to schedule weddings so that rain isn't an issue.
