Trees can be tough to shoot. To capture them, there usually needs to be some sort of mechanism to isolate them from their surroundings. This can be done with depth of field, color, tonality...
I find it difficult to distinguish what is the tree and what is background. Some of that may be the laptop I am using...
I was going to suggest using a much lower angle to contrast the tree against the sky. But then, to do that you would end up smelling like ripe apple cider....
Trees are tough and I often find that I'm drawn to them but then dissatisfied with the shot I get.
I like the fact there is some soft light on most of the tree so you don't lose all of the texture. Most shots are so exposed for the backgrounds that the trees are almost silhouettes. It's also not your "typical" huge tree, which I think works.
For me the image is too busy and there is too little interest. Or maybe too much - is the subject meant to be the tree or the sunset ? Shooting at a different time of day might help make the tree the focus of attention with more light on it and less in the low sky.
Silhouettes work, and does lighting the subject, but this one is doing both with the same tree and it doesn't seem to work well.
