Northern Lights

Frequent lurker and rare poster here, but I got a few tonight that I want to share.

Best light show I've seen in a while when it wasn't -20 F. Just wandered out the door and got these (if you look close a powerline or two made it into a couple of them). Tomorrow night is a good forecast and I'm planning on being up a bit higher to get some better shots. Wish me luck!

Hey Skip,

Very cool! It is cool with the tree's in them. Where are these taken?

Norther light images always seem to be good to me. This is also the case for these images. What I like the most with them is the silhouette of the pines which gives some depth to the images.

Well done

Jim,

Taken just outside of Denali National Park.

I think we PMed about Alaska last spring or summer. Was that you? Did you end up coming up? If you did, how'd it go?

Hey All,

Thanks for the feedback, just got one question. Do these look too dark? Just calibrated my screen this weekend and they looked great at 1am this morning. Now they look WAY dark. The screen might be right, but my eyes might have been calibrated to the night. Or the problem might be the bright sunny day and the two windows on either side of the computer. Even with the blinds drawn, it is pretty bright inside right now.

thanks,

Skip

Too fun. I have watching the forecast and wishing I were further north.

Zen, I have seen a lot of good northern light photos, but most of them have poor foregrounds or less than stellar silhouettes. These, however, are GREAT! The smartly composed silhouettes of trees with the northern lights above look very nice in your photos. Great job. The photos do not look too dark in my monitor.
