I just spent that last week in Utah/Arizona with a friend of mine photographing the beautiful rocks.. we hiked from wirepass trailhead to lee's ferry over 6 days, spending 3 days photographing buckskin gulch. Antelope may have color and sensual curves over buckskin, but no other place can offer you 13 miles of slot canyon with unique character and form around every corner.. and we only saw two other people! (for good reason.. permits are scarce, and there's plenty of waist deep stagnant pools of cold water with suspicious moldy like growths floating on them, and a 20 ft drop off obstacle.. all with a 60lb pack

Here's one to start off with - enjoy

That's very cool, Floris! Love the lighting, and I've not seen such opalescent colors on the slots, before. Beautiful!

Nice shot.

Cool petroglyphs at the bottom too.

Hey Floris,

Very sweet! What a cool slot. Can't wait to watch this series play out.

Hello Floris,

Super image. Love the darker areas and fine contrasts usually missing from images of the better known areas. Thanks for sharing the results from your trek.

Wow... it's like a forgotten statue standing in the middle of the canyon. The range of colours is superb, so is the subtle detail everywhere.

One of the best I've seen from Buckskin Gulch.

I agree with you about Antelope.
It's great that we have both canyons to appreciate !

I haven't done the full length of Buckskin, yet.
You must have set up your own shuttle between Wire Pass and Lee's Ferry?
Or is there a service for hire ?

Thanks

Doing the full trek is quite an experience, I highly recommend it! (you'll need to make time for day hikes on either end too though, to get all the photography in.. 13 miles in that kind of terrain doesn't leave much time for photos, since you need to get out before dark so you can navigate the rock jam safely). There is a shuttle service from Lee's Ferry, which we used ($65/person).

Wow, what a range of colors. Bet that was a tough exposure.

yea.. it was tough alright I used a 2 stop hard ND hand held and moved it around a bit to get the majority of it right, then blended in some other exposures. Also had to control the flare with a carefully held hat (in addition to the hood of course)
