p.1 #1 · Mark III from onecall..

Just a quick update:

For those want to get the newest Mark III productions, don't buy from onecall, whick looks like still shipping the Blue-Dot with datecode manufactured in 2007, while they still shipping the newest Mark III with datecode VW02xx, and they will charge you 15% restacking fee if you want to make a change.

Good luck for all !

and the problem is what

vent your anger at CANON not it's "authorized internet merchants"

how do you know what canon distributors shipped them, or what the "newest productions" are.

you want unlimited returns so the next buyer is stuck with what your cherry-picked stuff that has been handled, shipped, used, returned?

Is this an instance of used gear? If you receive it, do not open it, and want to exchange for "newer" production code I think you would only have to pay shipping charges. If it is used all bets are off and the restocking fee should apply, ONLY if you experience no focus issues or defects. C.J.

Lide, thank you for the update, but you don't have to worry about me.
Today I am as distant from buying a MkIII as I was 8 months ago, and practically no price incentive nor Canon press release could persuade me otherwise.

I have enough of a problem getting Canon to AF-calibrate my EF 50mm f/1.2L USM. The last thing I need to start worrying about is if my cameras are focusing right.

I must have been lucky. Like I said earlier, I ordered my 1DmkIII from OneCall last thursday and got a 565xxx serial number. Sorry you didn't have the same luck.

Maybe Lide got somebody's return? Just bad luck on his part maybe. It still seems to be a crap shoot on the MK III

Thanks for the info, Lide - I think it will be very helpful for those in the market!

who messed with your cereal? the guy is giving people the heads up so if they want a non blue dot camera with high serial number they should go with a different vendor. where did you see anger with Canon!?!?!?

I purchased mine on 2/14 with a serial number of 558xxxx... No problems with the camera or Onecall... I have purchased all my Canon cameras from them for several years now...

Just giving a balanced look.

It is true that they have the 15% restocking fee... I made sure to ask them when they got the camera from Canon before shipping.

I don't know where are you coming from, and how much do you know the Mark III's AF history..

The only reason i post here is if you buy from any store online, you still have the chance to get old stock while the main market are selling the newest production with no blue-dot on the box and i think that's most Mark III buyers want...

Cheers...

I don't know if it's used or not, just quite intetesting while they shipped OW02xxx datecode Mark IIIs last week, and they ship out OV12xx datecode Mark III now.

Does Canon ship out their productions by shipping latest production first, than the early pruduction later ? i am not sure.

Regarding if i open the box or not, it's a very difficult matter, b/c Mark III's box is not sealed.... you know what i mean...and how can i mail it back without open the box to exam what's inside, otherwise when they received the package and told you nothing's inside, what should we do than ...?

Sorry but this is not helpful in any way. You don't need LUCK you need common sense as a consumer (asking the return fee and serial BEFORE making payment)

He has sampled ONE camera from said vendor. Maybe a return or just a box on a shelf. Maybe just arrived from Canon yesterday.

The OP could perhaps be helpful only by contacting Canon & let them know of his displeasure working with an authorized Canon dealer. The next 10 bodies onecall ships might be 1 week old. the next body B&H ships could be 3 months old.

so you do agree with me that it is helpful if you order from Onecall and you don't know what you will get, wouldn't it be better to go with a different vendor that clears his stick faster so you are likely to only receive newer items?

besides, you could have said the exact same thing without lashing out on him for at least trying to help.

The last Blue-Dot Mark III i got about two months ago with a datecode OW0106, and some FM'ers here got their new Mark IIIs recently with a datecode OW02xx, so if the Mark IIIs with the earlier datecode like OV12xx were really shipped from Canon Japan directly, thare's only one guessing: These Mark IIIs were re_Manufactured or Re_fixed. Otherwise i can't see why the Mark III with OV12xx datecode manufactured last year came to us with two months delay compared with those newer Mark IIIs sold here.

And for a quick update: the Mark III i just bought performs great from the initilal test, Af dead on, and my 6-8 lens no one need the AF MA, inluding the 85/1.2 and 24/1.4, while my other SM_Fixed Mark III does need AF MA for some of my lens..

This Mark III will be put on test next weekend for a wedding along with another Mark III, and i will report back.

Cheers..

i disagree with you completely. again you have NO CLUE which vendors "clears his sticks faster". I'd buy from onecall or several other vendors and use the same smarts when purchasing from any of them

onecall does alot of business FWIW

the OP proclaimed don't buy from onecall instead of recommending others become minimally informed before making an internet purchase

I bought a MK3 from Onecall a couple weeks ago....I talked with a guy named Todd and told him I would order the MK3 if it was of the latest mfg....he assured me that it would be, so I ordered it. I got it a few days later and it was a blue dot with ser# 556*** datecode of Dec. '07.

I have been testing this MK 3 on bird in flight shots and it has a focus problem and I was going to return it before ever seeing this post.

I called them this evening about returning it...and they asked if I wanted to exchange it or get a refund...I told them I wanted to exchange it if they would send one of the non-blue dot bodies. The guy told me that they only have blue dot MK 3's...I told him about some people getting the newer bodies from them and he asked where I got that info from. I told him about seeing this post and while I was on the phone with him he brought up this post and was reading it. I then asked again about exchanging for a non-blue dot body and he said they would give me a refund. I told him that was fine if it was going to be a full refund with no 15% re-stock fee. He said that if after them testing it and finding a problem is the only way there would not be a 15% fee...so, I asked if they were going to use a 500 f/4 IS and take it out to get some bird in flight shots with it and I was told that they have lens to test returned cameras with...yea, right...like they are going to take it out with a 500 and get some bif shots with it to test it out. I'm pissed to say the least, as I'm not about to send this body back to them for them to say there is nothing wrong and charge me a 15% re-stock fee or just send it back, as I know they will never test it under the same conditions where the problem exists.

And get this....about five mins after I got off the phone with them...the guy called me back and wanted to know if I was the person who started this thread, I told him no and he said I was lidesun as the profile for lidesun matched the area where I live...I told him again I was not lidesun and he said ok....??

I hope you guys at Onecall are still reading this thread....This was the first time I have ever bought anything from Onecall and it will definitely be my last. I will send this camera back to Canon before I will take a 15% loss and I will also tell all my friends never to buy anything from Onecall.
