p.1 #1 · Geena (new version)

I shot a test with a model friend and one of the looks we tried for was a soft b&w like the David Yurman ads. (Example) Obviously, I couldn't carry Peter Lindbergh's camera bag, but I thought I'd post it for feedback.

Not that crazy about how the hand in the hair gets cut off, but I like the rest of the shot enough to live with it over other shots. No photoshop yet, just lightroom conversion. More of Geena to come.

Howdy Chris.

I see your thread has had almost 200 views and no comments yet.

I will get you started.

I like the face. She is obviously a pretty woman. I would bump up the contrast some.

I think the up arm (her left) is not looking good in this pic. The mottling (probably due to blood near the skins surface) near the elbow and the strong vertical line up the forearm (looks like a cut or scar) don't look good with the pretty face. The awkward bend of the wrist looks 'funny' too in the image. The far right has what appears to be a mouth near her forearm (it is hair and some shape). It looks like lips.

Obviously using an arm (or parts of one) adds to the complexity of the image and makes it a challenge.

In this particular image I think the arm (her left) is a "distraction" from the beauty of the face.

I hope you find these comments helpful.

I have to agree with Steady! The conversion from lightroom is nice!

Wonderful pose (although I'd prefer if the hand wasn't cut off), beautiful model, but very soft. I would sharpen it up a bit (especially the eyes).

I appreciate the feedback Steady. It's not a scar, but the indentation you get between the forearm muscle and bone when you twist your wrist.

Thanks Andre.

Thank you Scott.

Canuck88, thanks for the comments. It's actually not soft. The front eye is in focus and the back eye a little soft cuz its shot at 2.8 on a 5D and the focal plane is so narrow. And the soft Yurman-esque B&W was the look I was going for.

Chris - the good thing here is if you don't like the shot, you can shoot again with your friend! (and if not, send her my way to shoot). Those eyes just make me want to zoom in more in to the face with less arm, etc. Also the back tie of her dress is kinda distracting me from "her".

Pretty model and I like the conversion and the softness of the image. Agree with the above post about the left arm and I am struggling with three dark lines in her neck just over her right shoulder. Like the image though.

Can't wait for the photoshopped version. I would like to see some grain and slight sharpening. Great shot!

this crop is much better.......the attention flows to her eyes more.......its a great capture, very moody, sensual image of a beautiful woman.

hope you don't mind...i did a couple things differently.

Thanks renfield. Yeah, I was shooting at ISO 800, but the darn 5D is too clean.
