Morning Glow.... | |

Very interesting composition, Hugh. I find that the very front rocks guide me round a curve onto the main body of rocks (which do have a hint of blue ) The fact that they are not in sharp focus helps in this, as the eye passes along them to the left hand side without being distracted. I think this would not work nearly so well if they were fully sharp. I like the oranges/yellows in the colour scheme, the way the artificial light blends with them and the way the light's vertical is echoed, deeper in the picture, by the sign. A very interesting composition.
Hello Martin,
Thanks for the detailed comment. In retrospect, slightly wider to make the jetty curve more obvious could have increased the justification for the foreground rocks, but I felt, as you say, that they served their purpose. The idea was what I call a 'landscape macro', using a longer lens to zoom into a smaller area of the scene that has special interest. In this case, the fine, warm glow in the sky. The 'sign' is a channel marker buoy showing the entrance into the cruise ship basin. I shot several different views of this scene, taking advantage of the warmer colors. Glad the image works for you. Others will probably follow .
