I can't tell ya what relief it was do have a strong shoot again. Past two I had of couples really there was just nothing there. My thoughts weren't going anywhere and I felt like I had 0 creative energy. Anyways I got together with two friends because I was trying to work out that funk and this is what we came up with. I hope yall like these. Love them? Hate them? Your thoughts please.
(sorry for so many but couldn't narrow it down as much as normal)
Looks to me like the creative juices are flowing just fine. These are great. Great angles....great expressions. Lovely light. I really like #7. Does that shot have fill flash or reflectors?
Jon: It felt like I could breathe again after the shoot. After you have not the most amazing in a row you start questioning yourself and that day I was just like go do whatever.. just make it happen seems like self confidence plays a lot into how stuff comes out. Anyways there was no reflector used or flash in #7 just metered to her face shot it then in post processing made it a little more even. Sending PM now.
great series, braeden-you always get that flare in there, huh? definitely works for you-not crazy about the close up wide angles (5,6,7), but the wider shots with some space (8,9) are my cup of tea-2nd shot in series 10 is also very nice-love the double framing (frame within a frame) with the door
I tried to like them, but to be honest, I really don't like them at all. I find the lighting or lack of it and the exposure to be annoying and I see nothing very interesting here.
Elliot: I am sorry you feel that way. I respect your view in that we apparently have very very different taste in style. To say that there is lack of lighting is a bit funny (thats about as much light as you can fit in a frame) I think you were trying to say a lack of control. If you were saying there was a lack of control I will have to disagree with you because I know very specifically what I was doing with the strong highlights and lens flares. Also was very particular about my exposures... I personally don't care if the sky gets blown too much. I am sorry you feel none of this is interesting. I try and shoot the style of images that inspire me. This is what does it for me.
Todd: Now if I can figure out how to *let me figure out how to word this very carefully lol* make everyday I pick my camera up an on day that would be the trick. Thanks for the reply

#9 is interesting, but would have preferred to see just a little bit more body.
Having the lens flare might be the style, but it should dominate.
#6 is close, but the flare across the throat just misses. Actually, I'd just clone that bit out, but that's up to you.
Same with #3. Dominates the couples.
#2 works well though.
Otherwise, the keep playing with the style, I say. I agree , who cares if things get blown if that's what you're looking for.
Oops, stupid me. I meant 'should not dominate too much'. The subjects still need to be the centre of attention.
This is really one of the hardest styles to get right because typically we will look at the areas that are
a) focused
b)light
c) near
then out of focus , dark, and further away.
Not exactly a strict rule, and the photographer can manipulate us as they see fit. With something like bright areas and lens flare, you can see how this really is a difficult style and why some will not like it. Still, it's a style that needs exploring because it IS different and difficult.
LOVE THEM. I think he's too gone in the last one, but 7, 6, 1, and 4 are just phenomenal. The warm golden tones are perfect, and the photos are glowing with personality.
Well, I looked again, and I should probably say more than just "on."
The tryptich, 8a and 9 are just phenomenal. 10a, too! 8a is one of the nicest engagement -type images I can remember seeing. How do you meter this lens flare stuff?? Are you just in full manual?
His expression in #2 is not my favorite, and I'm actually distracted by the fake plastic post in #5.
i think because they weren't clients, the pressure was off and you were free to be as creative as possible. I know this is true for me. I think you also made a wise decision to get two friends together for an exercise. These shots are absolutely wonderful and i hope you can take this into your next clients shoot. Bravo x 3.
