p.1 #1 · Bird ID Help ??? (3)

I shot this little guy at the Wallkill River NWR. He was flitting from twig to branches sticking up out of the wetlands. I'm guessing it's an eastern phoebe, but they have a longish tail, usually. This bird has hardly any tail, unless it's a birth deformity that he is missing one. Thanks.

Tough one, my Audobon says they 'wag' their tail (that would be tough for this guy) and are 7in but shows a picture with a long tail. This one looks very small for 7in but that would probably include the tail. I don't seem to see anything like it. Good luck, and good shots!

I can't help with ID but that sure is an interesting little bird. It just doesn't look right.

Good shots too.

Thanks Karl. It sure looks unnatural without a rear stabilizer.
