Another desert critter from last week, the Greater Roadrunner is one of my favorite birds, they are such characters, amusing to watch but fairly challenging to shoot.
Laura, when I saw the title and who the photog was I new I was in for something good and I am not dissapointed! I have yet to see one of these guys despite spending a fair amount driving about the southwest and the mojave and such. You did a wonderful job on this, great background and a striking pose.
One day I'll get to see one and then I can get to work on photographing one.
Laura you got him/her right where you want it! that rock looks like a pedestal he's proudly posing for ya! Such a beautiful shot..perfect in every aspect..bg pose detail.
You did great

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks Tim. these birds are shy if approached but will often come within a few feet of you if you are sitting quietly, they are curious birds and can be habituated to humans in urban settings

Laura, this is excellent. Not only does the bird look very alert, but the background is great. A perfect combination.

thanks Chris, it's great luck to get that crest up but it's a signature feature of the roadrunner so I was really glad when he did that for me! I think it's the equivalent of "raising our eyebrows"

How much did you pay him to pose so perfectly? Excellent shot!!!!!

thanks Steve, it was literally my last shot of the day, it was almost 5:00 pm and the sky was clouding up, I was carrying my rig to the car and thought I'd just set up for the last few minutes left of light, just incredible good luck and a reminder to me that each second counts!

Just ask the Coyote. He's tried shooting them, trapping them, blowing them up, painting fake tunnel entrances on canyon walls...
