When I went back today, I was surprised to see him there again in the same spot. His (he looks like a big, boofy male - typical Aussie) behaviour is unusual as (a) he is resting only a couple of feet off the ground (b) in a willow (c) lets me approach without scooting up a tree (d) and is in the same place 2 days running. There is a large strand of eucalypts only feet away, so I think that he probably went for a feed during the night and came back to his special spot to cool down during the day.
As he looked hot and tired, and I had a sprinkler going nearby, I thought I would wet him down. In fact, I have wet him down twice during the course of the day, and he loved it. He licked the moisture from his fur and from the tree trunk.
The Australian F1 Grand Prix you refer to is, I think, the same one those treacherous Melbournians stole from Adelaide in 1996. It's ok. We're getting over it. Slowly.
Another good story-telling series Charles. Are you thinking of a name for your koala? It's interesting that he likes the sprinkler. Our new pup Daisy also doesn't mind getting wet when drinking from the hose during the rare times we're allowed to use it.

Thanks for your comments and kind words John. The koalas name I suspect is Kevin. It is a coincidence that our newly elected Prime Minister's name is Kevin. In fact, Kevin Koala is a rather common name down here for koalas, as all Aussies are aware.
By the way, today was the third day running that I found Kevin in his favorite spot. It was 41C today, cooling down to 29C tomorrow, so I'll see if he's still there when it's cooler.

Hi Charles. It will still be in the 30s (just) up here tomorrow in the northern suburbs. Nice change all the same.
