p.1 #1 · Fiesty Tree Swallows

I spent a morning shooting Tree Swallows here at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary. They are pairing off and trying to lay their claim to a nest box. There seems to quite a bit of fighting, chasing, and chirping going on!

Great job Hung.

# 4 is just too funny. Wouldn't wish to be on the receiving end of that one. That's got to be an ear full.

I love #4 also. It looks like she caught him going off on a lark.

Hung, Great job using the 20d and the 400mm. I once tried photographing these at my uncles, they had a barn full of them. very difficult to get in flight. I know what you went through to get these shots. Well Done!

Hung, that is a great series. Lots of action and squabble going on. Nice flight grabs, looks like a fun outing. Nice to see these.

Good shots. I have yet to get a good picture of a tree swallow. They are not timid so you gan get quite close, but the dark eyes surrounded by dark feathers make it hard to get any detail. How did you get your nice catchlights, natural, flash or photoshop? Love #4.

thanks for the comment. these are natural catchlights. i always try to position myself with the sun over my shoulder. this helps me to catch the reflection of the catchlight.

With so many comments on #4 (Great shot!) I feel the need to properly educate. Those are both males. The males have the blue color and the females wear brown Technically, the comment can be applied to #2
Great behavior & flight shots of swallows fighting for territory.

Nice action, tough to get a flight shot of these swift birds. Love that "conversation"!

According to my bird book males and females are the same. Immature birds are brownish.
