Hello everybody,
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum, but I hope it is.
I've been working on putting up a professional portfolio website for people to see select images in a more professional setting than Flickr.
Here it is: www.robinryan.ca
Please excuse the splash image - that will be changed either for a better-quality one, or one with a better design.
What do you guys think of this? Does it load too slowly? What would you change? Are there images you dont feel should be there? My flickr adddress is listed below: are there any that you feel should be on my portfolio?
I know the profile link doesn't work yet - haven't made that page yet.
Here are some suggestions:
1) Your title-ing is non standard - places as opposed to landscape - if you are selling make it easy
2) If you intend to sell pictures - I would have an easy contact page that summarizes you contact details always availabel
3) I would also have a page that has more detail - like the very first page - that describes what you are selling. It is better to limit it to 2 or 3 things rather than everything.
4) Prune some pictures - I would not put any picture on that is not perfect - most of your pictures are very good - but there is one of a lady for instance with her legs framed through. If you are selling I would put maybe your best 3-5 in each of 3 categories
Thanks for the ideas, Scott. I'll definitely look into a way to get some more info on the main page, and I'll change the names of the sections.
I was thinking about selling prints at $50/image, whatever size, shipping included. Does this sound better than a sliding scale?
I'm very interested in which pictures you feel should not be up there. I'm not sure which one you are referring to - is it b&w? which section? I'll give it another hard look and delete the ones which I don't feel are up to par.

That is a pretty good price to my mind for starters but you should limit the size to 16x20 ish.
Keep in mind that I have only sold my pictures in united way. They sold at 16x20 for about $80 with a $20 frame for reference. I thought they were pretty good shots.
Another one I saw below Needs white balance correction (slide triangles in to sides), shadows/hightlights, is tight on corn at bottom and the guy is soft and shadowed.
Most are very good so don't get discouraged by the ones I posted.
You might post them three by three here for comment to check over time.
Thanks Scott - I always value your opinion on this stuff.
The second shot of the child is one of my most disappointing shots, in that it could have been incredible, but I missed the focus... I'll think about removing it.
I've also downsized all the images, so the load times should be much, much faster.
