p.1 #1 · Is CaptureNX worth the money?

Hi all,

What do you recommend processing portraiture with? I have tried Lightroom (trial) and it seemed okay, but not the best RAW convertor for me, then I thought CaptureNX. Considering I am a Nikon user, this probably makes sense!

All input heartily welcomed!

Are you looking for pure speed? If so, then CaptureOne by PhaseOne is still the fastest. After that you may consider Lightzone.

NX is slower than Lightroom. It get's slightly better raw results with less work, but at the end of the day you can get the same results from Lightroom.

NX's biggest plus was u-point technology, but niksoftware has made that a plugin for Adobe now, which ultimately makes it more versatile.

I have NX, and shelved it about a year ago.

I would suggest though that you take the advantage of the trial though, because ultimately it's what tool you enjoy most and are most comfortable with, and that may very well be Capture NX.

I like the way NX handles noise in the raw conversion over CS3. It is slow, but I don't do thousands at a time...

I create a tiff and do most everything else in CS3.

I am downloading the trial version right now. It looks like a great programme, but the test will be in the interface. I just didn't like lightroom!

Thanks for the help!
