p.3 #1 · Bludomain

I am cautiously jumping in on the blu band wagon. They really need to fix their automated emails. It took a half hour to get one. The one I got said they were at WPPI until Saturday the 22nd. This was on Friday the 28th. The message said nothing about when or how to get the template.

in the evening I finally got an email saying I would have my template emailed by no later then Midnight TODAY(Friday). Saturday evening around 10:00pm I finally received it.

This morning I requested to have it go live. They claim someone contact me with-in 36 hours to give redirect info to my current provider. We'll see how long it takes.

I must say they have nice templates and they are very user friendly to set up. As of right now I give them a 7 out of 10.

smug mug is ok, if you have good images to help make their poor site stand out. Personally I wouldnt want a cheap (free) site as my business site.

But hey thats just me I guess.

It must be me too, because I paid $150 for it--probably just cheap ol' me though.

Same boat my friend, but honestly I think for the price its well worth it. Besides that their service isn't that bad... They have always responded to my emails within a day.

My new site is up and running.

They definitely have their flaws, but my experience was pretty pain free.

$300 I have a great site, a shopping cart, and 1 year of hosting.

I've had a good experience so far.

I purchased a site on Sunday, and received it yesterday. They logged on to my web host and set everything up. I never received the email initially telling me that they were finished, but found it on my own by poking around my ftp servr, and contacted them. I got a response within a day.

Now it's up to me to use the admin panel and configure/build the site.

$200 lets me get content (which is all I have to focus on, now) up quickly and easily and host wherever I want. The site design isn't original (obviously, they sell it to many other people), but it's also a lot of features for $200. A batch uploading system, client proof galleries, calendar, shopping cart, easy edits to page text, etc.

sidewa, in my case, I had a directory http://www.yourserver.com/templatename/bluadmin/ to start editing the site.

Does anyone know, once done configuring, how to move the built site from http://www.yourserver.com/templatename/ to http://www.yourserver.com/ ? I don't want the url in the top of the browser showing the /templatename/ on click-through of a splash screen. Can everything in /templatename/ be brought down a directory? Or should this just be left to them, I noticed the admin panel has a 'Go Live!' button, which I am assuming puts in a request to do this.

Matt

Matt, when you are done configuring, select the "Go Live" option from your control panel. That will send you to a BD support page to log a ticket and request they make yur page live. Once this is done, the page will be at your top level domain (http://www.photobymatt.com).

I looked at doing mine myself but I wasn't aware of all the associations so I just waited it out to let them take care of it.

blu domain is bad news... I just started a blog devoted only to people having problems with them. they currently have an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau of Denver. Here is the blog url:

cookie-cutter. i scratch my head every time i see a photographer who shoots killer work, but market themselves on one of those template websites. i'm currently having my wedding/family site redone and spent a several hours surfing and checking out peoples sites this weekend...at one point i recall i went to four different sites in a row that had the exact same look!!! you'd think they worked for the same company the similarities were so striking.

one other thing, not sure about you, but when i open a site i hate music commencing without me asking for it. i have itunes for music while i surf, thank you. music, as part of the "experience" of your website is lame. as are blogs. just my 2 cents.

I totally have to disagree with this. I purchased a site on Blu on a Saturday night, got it Tuesday morning. There was a problem with the link when I received it. I contacted them by support ticket. In just over an hour, someone responded that they would look into it. Ten minutes later, I had received 2 separate notices that the problem was fixed (and it was). When I sent the "Go Live" request on Wednesday evening, I got the "site launched" response on Friday night.

I'm not saying people haven't had problems, but for me, it has been a very good experience.

Just had a major problem on one of my 2 BluDomain sites Sunday morning. They had it fixed about 10 minutes after my email. Very happy with the sites and service.

I'm on my second site with Blu and I've never had a problem with them. I know last Fall they dealt with some personal tragedies which I'm sure affected their business in some ways, but in the year or so I've dealt with them I've been more than happy with what I've gotten, especially considering the prices I paid.
