p.1 #1 · new mac books, but

with less L2 cache, 3mb instead of 4mb. does this mean the new 2.1 will be faster or slower than the old 2.0 version , say both with 4 gig's of ram viewing raw's in lightroom?

also would going from 2.1 to 2.4 make much of a difference to viewing raw images at full res.

2.1 will probably be faster though not noticeably more, It will run cooler and use less battery. Going to 2.4 will make a difference, how much is questionable. My early 2006 2ghz macbook runs LR ok but my 2.4 iMac is noticably faster (it has better video also).

Not much help I guess, if I were to upgrade now, I'd go for a macbook pro at max spec if I wanted it to be my main LR machine.

Good luck

Keep an eye on www.barefeats.com. They do Mac benchmarking like this.

The 'upgrade' was more of a move initiated by Intel. The chipset used in the old version is not being produced as much so Apple needed to switch to the Peryn chip to keep the volume up. The general consensus right now is to get the older version. Not much slower if any, cheaper for sure (refurb store or just the old models) and it comes with the remote.
